We're proud to have reached the finish line on our Greymouth Mental Health Unit project, delivered on time and on budget.

Yesterday, the facility — now named Ngā Moana e Rua — was officially opened by Minister for Mental Health Hon Matt Doocey at Te Nīkau Hospital & Health Centre. The new building includes seven beds (six single rooms plus one flexible room), a low-stimulus room, therapy and treatment spaces, family areas and outdoor courtyards, and forms part of a $27 million investment under the Government's Mental Health Infrastructure Programme. The first patients are expected to move in from 16 September — a huge milestone for the West Coast community.

This has been a significant project for Scott Construction and one we're extremely proud to have been part of. A huge amount of work has gone in behind the scenes, and the end result is a high-quality facility that will provide real value to the West Coast community for years to come.

One of the things that has stood out throughout the project has been the support from the local Greymouth & wider West Coast community. Our team has spent a lot of time on the Coast over the course of the job, and we've really appreciated the support and hospitality from local businesses, suppliers and the wider community.

A massive thank you to everyone who contributed to the project. Delivering a project of this scale on time and on budget takes a genuine team effort, and we couldn't have achieved it without the commitment of our staff, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and client.

It's been a great journey and one we're very proud to have been part of.

Thanks Greymouth — it's been a pleasure.

Welcome to the team!

We're proud to welcome four new apprentices to Scott Construction from the past couple months — Amelia, Blake, Phillip and Stanley! We're also excited to have Tasmyn with us on work experience at the moment.

Investing in the next generation is how we future-proof our industry. Skilled trades don't happen by accident — they're built onsite, day by day, with the right mentoring and hands-on experience. Our whole crew is looking forward to showing Amelia, Blake, Phillip, Stanley and Tasmyn the ropes and helping them grow into the tradespeople of tomorrow.

Here's to learning on the job, building real skills, and building a stronger future for construction — one apprentice at a time.

Welcome aboard!

Big news for Nelson

We're proud to be the team building it — adding a whole new level to the existing old Staig and Smith building right next door to MORRISON, to make way for Reform Radiology's new diagnostic imaging clinic, opening in 2027.

It's a technical build, and Rick and the team are putting in the mahi to get it right.

This purpose-built facility will bring new imaging capacity and modern technology to our region, with Reform partnering with local clinicians to offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services — extending their established Christchurch operation and giving Nelson greater access, capacity and choice.

First Concrete Pour: Salisbury Road

Another exciting milestone for the Scotts team — we have reached our first concrete pour on our latest Salisbury Road project, an 11-bed care facility.

This marks the start of an important build for our community, and we are proud to have Jeremy and his team leading the way on site.

Great work, Jeremy and team — here's to the next stage of the build.

Proud to be part of this journey with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua. Our Nelson team has been out at Hauhunga watching the new wharenui take shape, and it's awesome seeing the mahi, planning, and cultural narrative behind this project come together.

We're honoured to help bring it to life.

A wall that celebrates every one of us

We're thrilled to unveil our new Employee Wall on the way to the cafeteria — and it looks incredible.

This wall is more than décor. It's a reminder that this building belongs to every employee who works here — not just the folks behind desks, but every single person who shows up, contributes, and makes this place what it is.

From day-one newcomers to our longest-serving team members celebrating years of dedication, every face and every milestone tells a story worth celebrating. Together, our current team represents nearly 950 years of combined experience — and that's before you even count the retired employees whose faces are also on that wall, honouring the decades they gave to building this place into what it is today.

Next time you visit the Scott Construction new HQ, take a moment to stop, look, and get to know a few more names and faces. That's what this is all about — feeling seen, feeling welcome, and feeling like this is your building too.

Huge thanks to everyone who made this come together. Proud doesn't even begin to cover it.

We were proud to host the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce at our new headquarters for an evening of networking, presentations, and guided tours.

Members of the local business community joined us for drinks and nibbles, followed by a series of presentations introducing our vision for the future. Guests then had the opportunity to tour our new HQ alongside members of our leadership team, gaining a firsthand look at the space we've built to support our continued growth.

We were grateful for the turnout and the quality of conversation throughout the evening. Events like this reflect our commitment to strengthening ties within the business community and building lasting relationships with our neighbours and partners.

We look forward to welcoming many of you back to our doors in the future.

Another great example of the variety of work we deliver at Scott Construction: the Nelson Airport Canopy project.

This job called for a solution that was both functional and fit for purpose, and we were able to draw on our own in-house steel fabrication workshop to design and deliver a canopy built to the exact specifications the site demanded.

Working within an operational airport brings its own set of challenges, from strict safety and security requirements to coordinating around live operations and tight access windows. It takes careful planning and a team that can adapt on the fly to keep things moving without disruption.

A big shout-out to Cary and the team for their hard work and problem-solving throughout this project. It's this kind of versatility, from residential builds to specialised commercial infrastructure, that reflects what Scott Construction is all about.

Employee Recognition Friday

This week we're shining the spotlight on Rodney.

Rodney started with the Scott family back in 2014, over the hill at Scott Construction Marlborough, before making the move to Nelson in 2022. In his own words, it's the great people here that have kept him around for the long haul, and he's built genuine friendships across the team along the way.

Ask Rodney about his favourite project, and he won't hesitate — the church on Champion Road stands out as a career highlight for him here in Nelson.

Outside of work, you'll usually find Rodney out on the golf course with a few of the guys from the team, trading a fairway for a framing square on his days off.

Thank you, Rodney, for everything you bring to the team. Here's to many more years with the Scott family.

Relaunching Our Values

At Scotts, our people and our purpose go hand in hand. Following extensive research and genuine input from our employees, we are proud to relaunch the four values that define who we are and how we work.

These values were not written in isolation — they reflect the voices, experiences and feedback of our people from across the business, shaped through careful consultation to ensure they truly represent who we are. What has emerged is a strong synergy between what our people told us and the principles that have long underpinned Scott — these values do not represent a departure from our history, but a reflection of it, giving language to the foundations this company has been built on for many years.

PASSION
Our passion drives us to pursue excellence and contribute to a sustainable future for our industry.
AMBITION
We encourage our people to continually grow, develop and strive to achieve their full potential.
INTEGRITY
We honour our commitments and hold ourselves to the highest standards.
RELATIONSHIPS
We build meaningful, lasting relationships with our clients, our people and suppliers, recognising the families and communities that support us all.

These values are not simply words— they are the foundation of everything we do, on every project, every day. As we look to the future, they will continue to guide how we build, how we grow, and how we support our people and the communities we serve.

We are committed to living these values, together.
