Epic Bridge Upgrade

This project on a complex bridge site required the team to work carefully around existing steel structures and reinforcing steel while integrating new strengthening works. The Trinder team assisted by modelling the site conditions prior to final fabrication and installation, which helped clearly communicate the constraints faced by the site crews to the design team. This approach was particularly valuable in resolving clashes and ensuring the new works could be installed accurately and safely.
The bridge was originally constructed as a single-lane concrete structure, with a second lane later added using steel, which naturally experienced greater deflection than the original concrete section. To address this, we fabricated and installed a 600mm high, 10.5 metre long beam, welded to the underside of the existing bridge beam. This significantly improved structural integrity and reduced movement.
The team at Egypt value that this modelling and coordination support is included as part of Trinder’s subcontract package, particularly when pricing and delivering complex works of this nature.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Glen McCloy, Director of Business Capability at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), here at Trinders.

Glen plays a key role in shaping the future of MBIE Innovation Services, including supporting the former Callaghan Innovation team now within MBIE. This session was held with a select group of national SME's operating in R&D and new product development, creating a valuable opportunity for open and focused discussion.

During the visit, we provided a full site tour, followed by a constructive conversation covering what’s working well in the innovation and R&D space, where the current challenges and gaps lie, and what future MBIE support services should look like for SMEs. We also carried out a review of MBIE’s past and present offerings, sharing practical feedback from a business perspective.

We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to these discussions and to help shape support systems that strengthen innovation across New Zealand’s business community

At 7-Tonne, it’s a serious bit of kit. It’s now on its way to the Thelin’s yard, where it will be joined on site.
