A common jobsite reality is mixed metals, time pressure, and zero appetite for rework.

That’s exactly where a Shearhead Type Parallel Groove Clamp earns its place. Particularly for AL to Cu connections where no mechanical tension is involved.

Why this design is field crew friendly:
✅ Shearhead bolt concept helps drive more consistent tightening outcomes across crews (some models equipped with Shearhead bolts)
✅ Bolt protection + easier tightening via the patented lower body section
✅ Built corrosion resistive: aluminium alloy body + tin plated copper linings (Cu side) + painted interface edges
✅ Hot-dip galvanised bolts and provided with joint compound

The cost of a connection issue is rarely the connector - it’s the return trip, the outage complexity, and the risk.

If you’re specifying or installing AL/Cu connections, send us your conductor details and we’ll recommend the right Shearhead option. Or check out more details on our website product page:

When you’re building or maintaining overhead networks, the small components matter, because every connection is a point you want confidence in.

At Electrical Connections, our Parallel Groove Clamp range covers common utility connection scenarios across aluminium, copper, insulated conductors, and AL/Cu transitions, including:
➡️ Aluminium Parallel Groove Clamps for tap-off connections on aluminium alloy conductors
➡️ Bimetallic Parallel Groove Clamps for connecting AL/Cu mains to copper tap-offs
➡️ Bimetallic Cover Type Tap Connectors for AL/Cu conductors with copper tap-off conductors
➡️ Universal Overhead Line Clamps for clamping dead ends, tap-off and auxiliary conductors (Al + Cu)
➡️ Copper Parallel Groove Clamps for tap-off connection of copper conductors
➡️ Insulation Piercing Connectors for insulated aluminium or copper conductors (single-bolt piercing; no insulation stripping)

Key benefits and why networks spec this product:
✅ Reactive work crews can carry less stock, as items are range taking
✅ Covers mixed-conductor networks (including AL/Cu to Cu tap-offs)
✅ Designed for tap-offs & common overhead scenarios (dead ends, auxiliary conductors, tap connections)
✅ Supports safer, faster work on insulated conductors (pierces insulation by single bolt action; no peeling; waterproof options)

If you’re still mixing-and-matching connectors job-to-job, you’re carrying risk in your kit. View our Parallel Groove Clamp range online or speak with our ECL team for product advice.

Choosing and installing reducers, adapters, and stop plugs correctly ensures the integrity, safety, and longevity of your electrical enclosure. Here are key best practices to keep in mind:

✅ Match Thread Type and Material - Always confirm that the thread type (Metric, NPT, PG, BSP) of your reducer or adaptor matches the equipment and gland in use. Mixing thread systems can cause cross-threading, poor sealing, or equipment damage. Select the same material (nickel-plated brass with brass glands, stainless steel with stainless steel glands) to prevent corrosion.
✅ Maintain Enclosure IP Rating - Each component plays a role in maintaining ingress protection. When reducing or adapting entry sizes, use IP-rated fittings and ensure sealing washers or O-rings are correctly seated. Poorly installed threadscan compromise an enclosures' IP rating.
✅ Use Stop Plugs for Unused Entries - Blanking off unused holes with certified stop plugs prevents dust, moisture, and debris ingress. In hazardous areas, always use IECEx- or ATEX-certified stop plugs that match your enclosure’s certification to maintain explosion and flameproof protection integrity.
✅ Verify Certification for Hazardous Areas - When working in classified zones (Ex d, Ex e, Ex t), ensure all reducers, adaptors, and stop plugs carry the correct IECEx / ATEX approvals and are installed per manufacturer recommendations to maintain compliance.
