Plaster tiles were commonly installed to ceiling systems throughout the 1970's. You would be surprised how many of these ceilings exist throughout commercial buildings today.

They are scary to see as these ceilings will not meet todays building codes when it comes to seismic compliance. Due to the way they are installed, if one is removed we find the rest tend to follow.

There worst feature is their weight. They are HEAVY. Imagine 3 tiles weighing 10kg+ falling on you in an earthquake? Ouch

This ceiling existed in the old Whanganui computer building - Wairere House, and we are happy to report we replaced this plaster tile ceiling last year. Level's 1 & 2 now have a brand new 2-way suspended ceiling which was installed to an engineered design. This means the ceiling has been built so it is secured to the buildings structure by way of bracing but is also floating by way of special seismic clips and seismic gaps. Fixing it this way reduces the risk of the tiles falling should the building move. Todays tiles only weigh 3-4kg each but its nice to know that the ceiling is secure with minimal risk of injury should an earthquake occur.

The space feels so different with it being more modern and the new lighting installed to the ceiling grid really makes for a nicer environment.

Decorative finishes will give your space that wow factor.

We have managed the installation of a range of products within different projects, including variations of the dècortech architectural panel range by Big River Panels, acoustic timber-look products by Autex Acoustics and Potter Interior Systems Austratus decorative aluminium fin system.

All these systems required careful planning in terms of fixing, bracing and installation to the specified design, to ensure the required look of the finished product.

We recently installed a new 2-way suspended ceiling throughout the Feilding Family Store at The Salvation Army Feilding. This ceiling was built to an engineered design which means it is braced to meet building code requirements. The bracing see the ceiling fixed securely to the building and will allow for movement of the ceiling in a seismic event.

Ceiling grid is Rondo Donn supplied by Potter Interior Systems
Ceiling tiles are Phonic NDF Square Edge by T&R Interior Systems
PinkBatts TasmanInsulation NZ supplied by Comfortech Building Performance Solutions
Gridloks by Tracklok brace the ceiling to the building structure
