Dexter Hall and Clarke Wycherley are on their way back from Chicago, and judging by the quick update they sent through, PACK EXPO kept them well and truly busy.

The boys managed more than 30 supplier meetings in two days. They caught up face to face with a number of our current suppliers and met plenty of potential new ones, with manufacturers from China, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Türkiye all around the table.

Keeping an eye on what the rest of the world is up to helps make sure the bag your product goes into is the best it can be, and that our customers in NZ and Australia have smarter choices on hand. They’ve found a few things we’re quite excited about, and we’ll share more as they take shape.

Clarke Wycherley knows bags. Like, really knows bags.

As our Quality & Technical Lead, he’s the person we wheel in when a conversation starts involving technical specs, testing, compliance, or gets deep enough into the science of bags that the rest of us quietly bow out.

He’s a details man, a proud Type A, and also rather partial to a bit of AI when there’s a rabbit hole worth disappearing down.

So when Clarke’s turn came around to choose the recipient of our monthly Smart Pack charity donation, he went with Alzheimers New Zealand

And it’s a very good shout. Dementia finds its way into the lives of so many New Zealand families, and the work Alzheimers New Zealand does to support people living with dementia, along with the families and whānau beside them, is something we’re very happy to put our small contribution towards this month.

We love a solid vision. And “zero deaths from breast cancer” is one we can absolutely get behind. 💗

Our Smart Pack charity donation this month is heading to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, nominated by our customer service extraordinaire, Tayla.

It’d be pretty hard to find someone who hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way. So while our donation is only a teeny contribution to a very big job, we’re bloody proud to put it behind a crew doing such amazing work.

And on one thing, the Smart Pack team is very much on the same page: cancer can get in the bin.

There’s a fair bit more sitting behind a good bag than most people ever need to think about.

PPWR, PFAS, heavy metals, traceability and conformity documentation aren’t exactly light reading, but when your product is heading to Europe, suddenly they matter.

We’re looking for a Customer Service & Sales Support Manager to join our Palmerston North team.

It’s a brand-new role with good people to lead, plenty to get your teeth into and genuine freedom to bring your own ideas and make things work better.

Finally, our time has come. 😂

Today is WPO - World Packaging Organisation Day, which feels like a fairly significant occasion when you spend as much time thinking about bags and sacks as we do.

Because for something that looks pretty simple, a good bag gets asked to do an awful lot.

It has to protect what’s inside it, behave itself through production, survive being filled, lifted, stacked, stored and transported, carry someone’s brand around on its front and, rather importantly, actually be there when it’s needed.

So today we’re raising a bag to packaging. 🥂

Happy World Packaging Day from a bunch of people who probably think about bags more than is strictly normal. 😂

Well, for the second year running, a jar of seeds has caused quite the stir.

The Seed Count Challenge was back at the Seed and Grain New Zealand Summit this week and, judging by the number of entries, you lot are still very keen on winning a pair of R.M.Williams boots.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by Site 2, had a yarn with the Smart Pack team and put a guess in. We had a brilliant couple of days catching up with you all.
