šŸŒž Big news from the Pacific: Niue Cuts Diesel Use by 1.2 Million Litres a Year

Niue's reliance on diesel generators has reduced significantly from 24/7 operation to just 2-3 hours a day thanks to a new 2.79 MWp solar and 8.19 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), supported by the New Zealand Government and installed by Sunergise.

The system is saving Niue around $4,000,000 NZD a year in diesel costs, funds that can be reinvested into healthcare, education, and community wellbeing for approximately 1,800 residents.

šŸ“Š By the numbers:

4,536 JA Solar panels
8.19 MWh Sungrow battery storage
5,186 MWh of clean electricity generated annually
407,992 kg of COā‚‚ offset every year

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen, from the Government of Niue and New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tradend Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) to our entire team on the ground.

The system was officially handed over at a ceremonial opening event on 23 July 2026.

An outstanding project that shows how small nations can lead the way for the Pacific's energy future šŸš€

We're proud to be trusted to install another solar infrastructure project as part of the Pacific's energy transition.

The Renewable Energy Solar and Storage on Efate and Tanna project (RESSET) will increase renewable energy integration on Tanna from zero to 75 percent and reduce fuel costs for the community.

This week marked the official ground-breaking ceremony and we are ready to move forward ā˜€ļø

Sunergise has officially switched on NZ’S LARGEST ROOFTOP SOLAR at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare! šŸš€

A major milestone for renewable energy in New Zealand:

More than twice the size of the country’s previous largest rooftop array (Mānawa Bay, 2.3 MWp — also installed by Sunergise), the system stands as a landmark project and could power over 1,000 average New Zealand homes.

The Project in numbers:
ā˜€ļø 5.3 MWp rooftop solar system
⚔ > 6,600 MWh energy generation per year
🌱 > 486 tonnes of COā‚‚ offset per year

The solar system was delivered under Sunergise’s SunPlusā„¢ Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), meaning Fisher & Paykel Healthcare pays only for the electricity generated, with no upfront capital cost āœ…

Jonti Rhodes, Vice President – Supply Chain, Facilities & Sustainability at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, wants to inspire other businesses with the solar journey:

ā€œInvesting in renewables is not only the right thing to do, it’s the smartest business strategy to implement. Hopefully this serves as an example to other New Zealand businesses. Working with Sunergise has allowed us to invest in clean energy, build resilience into our operations while continuing our core mission of improving patient care and outcomes.ā€

Energy resilience is once again top of mind and more important than ever.

ā€œThe current fuel crisis is a reminder of how exposed New Zealand is to global energy shocks. Solar installations, like what we’ve built at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, give businesses long-term price certainty and energy resilience, something that’s never been more valuableā€ Paul Makumbe, CEO Sunergise.

The project shows what the renewable energy future looks like and what scale is possible today. We are excited to help businesses in NZ and the Pacific move towards greater energy resilience!

šŸ‘ Special thanks to JA Solar, SMA Solar Technology and Clenergy for supporting the installation with high-quality panels, inverter and innovative mounting systems.

The project was delivered jointly by Sunergise EPC, Sunergise Asset Co and Fisher & Paykel Home Solutions by bringing together Sunergise’s engineering and construction expertise with Fisher & Paykel Home Solutions’ supplier, customer relationships and logistics expertise.

šŸŒž Exciting times for solar in the Pacific!

Our General Manager of Clay Energy, Praneel Kumar, recently spoke on One Breakfast TV about the upcoming SEIAPI Conference (March 24-25) in Suva – the first SEIAPI Conference in 15 years – which will focus on accelerating the Pacific’s transition to sustainable energy.

Key topics of the conference include:
- Challenges facing solar companies in the Pacific
- Policy and regulatory barriers
- Labour shortages and workforce capacity building
- Pacific women in solar energy
- Case studies

As Sunergise, we’re proud to participate with our brands Sunergise and Clay Energy, presenting some of our commercial solar case studies and sharing insights on financing the energy transition.

šŸ¤ We’d like to thank Seiapi Pacific for the opportunity and look forward to an engaging and inspiring conference!
