Neil came to building through the military, where construction was a secondary role alongside operations and deployments. Much of his training involved working alongside civilian tradesmen, building real world experience for life beyond the services. While he was part of some high profile projects during his time in uniform, the nature of military life meant he was often moved on before seeing them through to completion.

Since joining the NCB team, Neil has brought that same resilience and adaptability to every job. Highlights for him include the away trips for gas station builds, the broad variety of work and the strong team dynamics that make each day different.
He's honest about the realities of the trade as the years go on, but his approach has always been to manage what he can and keep showing up. That consistency and reliability is something the whole team values.

Away from site, Neil keeps busy on his lifestyle block, gets out on his motorcycle when time allows, and enjoys watching local hockey and following NZ cricket through the summer.

We built this high spec home in Darfield on an expansive section overlooking the Southern Alps. The design focused on creating a warm, functional family home that still delivers a strong architectural presence on the landscape.

We used imported Italian tiles and locally milled timber throughout to achieve a balance of refined finish and natural texture. The result is a home that feels solid, welcoming, and built to last, reflecting the level of care we put into every stage of the build.

After the clients subdivided their large Merivale section, they lost their frontage onto the Wairarapa Stream. They wanted an entrance and front garden that did justice to the bones of their 1895 homestead, along with a proper outdoor entertaining space to replace the river outlook they'd given up.

Joe and the team worked closely on this one, carefully boxing and setting all the levels for the paths, lawn edging, pond, and stone wall foundations. The new pergola and detailed pillars frame the heritage pedestrian gate beautifully, which was expertly crafted by the joiner.

The entrance and garden now beautifully compliment the home, lifting the entire property, and conveying a sense of classy, classic luxury.

When you build with Nathan Cook Builders you’re working with a tight knit team that takes real pride in their work. Nathan stays closely involved in each project and makes sure the crew understand the vision for the build so everyone on site is working toward the same result. Clients are kept in the loop throughout the process, with clear communication and practical guidance to help the project move smoothly from start to finish.

A strong focus on training is also part of the culture on site. Apprentices work alongside experienced builders, learning the trade whilst being part of projects the whole team can be proud of. They are a group of tradesmen who care about their work, support each other on site, and deliver qualiity construction.
