The thing about business is you need to have some determination and this guy has got it in spades!
200 sessions at Coach Tane Fitness — turns out the man who can cut off anything with an angle grinder still can’t cut the burpees. 🫣
Nah, actually super proud of you Ralph!

Our legend Gareth has entered the 200 club 🔥

Gareth gives every session his absolute best and is always willing to push himself, even when he hates us a little bit for it in the moment 🤣

He might not always love the push, but he never backs away from it. He shows up, gets stuck in and gives everything a go every single time 🔥

His consistency, effort and commitment never go unnoticed and reaching 200 visits is such a well-deserved achievement

We’re so proud of you Gareth and so grateful to have you as part of our CTF whānau 💛
Keep smashing it 👊

We have such a positive and supportive team culture here. Always looking out for each other and boosting morale.

Love that part of my job is swanning around having coffee while Gareth works hard in the workshop 😉

There's something refreshing about a business that's just as happy fixing a single broken bolt as it is building heavy-duty engineering projects. That's exactly what you'll find at Joblin Engineering Ltd in Rolleston.
The business was founded in 2017 after Gareth and Renee spotted a gap in the market. Farmers, manufacturers and everyday people often struggled to find an engineering company willing to tackle smaller custom jobs. Rather than specialising in one niche, they chose to become problem solvers who could help with almost anything.
Today, that approach sees them working on everything from agricultural repairs, heavy fabrication and manufacturing through to custom bridges, bus charging infrastructure, machine maintenance and one-off engineering solutions. Whether it's repairing equipment instead of replacing it, fabricating a custom part, or helping someone who simply needs a tiny screw for a broken chair, no job is considered too small.
One story perfectly sums up their approach. A customer attempted a DIY repair several times before calling Joblin Engineering Ltd . The repair ended up costing more because the team first had to undo the damage before fixing it properly. It's a reminder that experience often saves both time and money.
What also stands out is their commitment to community. The team actively volunteers locally and has built a workshop culture centered on helping people, solving problems and treating every customer with genuine respect.
Businesses like Joblin Engineering prove that great service isn't just about what you build—it's about the people behind it.

Mechanical engineering standards are out for review!

It’s so important that we get our say in shaping what our apprenticeships look like! Click the link and have some bedtime reading!

In April, we commence the Mechanical Engineering qualifications and standards review. The review will ensure that these qualifications and standards remain current, industry-relevant, and fit for future workforce needs.

We acknowledge that earlier project activity was paused during sector reform, which created uncertainty. Under renewed governance and a clearly structured delivery approach, this review will build on development already completed, in close partnership with industry and providers.

Over the coming months we'll hold:

· Industry engagement sessions to validate workforce and skills needs.

· Provider drop-in sessions to discuss programme impacts and transition planning.

👉 Visit our website project page for detailed information – including what the review will include, indicative timing of each phase, session dates and engagement opportunities: https://maeisb.nz/mechanical-engineering-qualifications-and-standards-review-2026/

We encourage all stakeholders to participate, provide feedback, and contribute to their areas of interest to help shape the future Mechanical Engineering training system.

When the apprentice calls in sick the back up gets roped in!

It was a pleasure to carry out repairs and build a new seat frame for the pool. It’s awesome when you get to have a personal connection with the work you do, and while Zoe is mad we can’t take her swimming at her favourite spot right now, we were able to help with the repairs in the pool!
