We're still buzzing from the Civil Contractors New Zealand Hirepool Ltd Project Excellence Awards!

Out of 17 outstanding finalist projects in our category, the competition was tough, so we're proud and humbled that the Ōtawere Project was recognised with a Highly Commended award.

Congratulations to HEB Construction on taking out the category and to March Construction on also being Highly Commended. The calibre of projects on display was a great reminder of the quality work being delivered across our industry.

A special shout out to our dream team, Baydon Chappell (Project Manager) and Talia Chappell (Systems Manager), who proudly accepted the award on behalf of the wider MAP team on the night.

Awards are great, but they're really a reflection of the people behind the project. Thanks to everyone who played a part in making Ōtawere a success, including our great construction partner Progressive Earthmoving Ltd

Thanks CCNZ - Bay of Plenty Branch! We're very proud to see this project recognised with a Highly Commended award in its category last night.
As proud members of CCNZ Bay of Plenty, it's fantastic to celebrate the innovation, collaboration and hard work that went into this project.
We're humbled by the recognition and grateful to be part of an industry that continues to deliver outstanding outcomes for our communities.

Their Ōtawere Water Storage Reservoir project received Highly Commended in the $20 million to $100 million category at the Civil Contractors New Zealand Hirepool Construction Excellence Awards in Wellington last night.

An outstanding achievement and a testament to the hard work, innovation, and collaboration behind this impressive project. Well done to the entire team!

Before the machinery arrives and construction begins, it's important to take a moment to acknowledge the place we're working in and the people connected to it.

A few weeks ago we joined Ngāti Wai, local stakeholders and project partners at Whangārei Heads for a karakia marking the start of our retaining wall and culvert replacement project for Whangarei District Council.

Arama from Ngāti Wai shared the history of Mt Manaia and the relationship between the maunga and the surrounding area, giving everyone a deeper understanding of why this work matters.

The project itself will improve resilience along this section of road through culvert upgrades, retaining wall construction, drainage improvements and associated road reconstruction works.

With our new Northland base now established, it's great to see local MAP crews leading the delivery of this project in their own community

A special shout-out also to the team at Treesafe Limited for their professionalism and support on the project – we were grateful to have them alongside us as delivery got underway

New project underway in Taupō.

We're on the ground delivering the Taupō Wastewater Storage Tanks project for Taupō District Council. The underground buffer tanks will help manage peak wastewater flows during major storm events, reducing the risk of overflows and supporting future growth in Taupō North.

Before work got underway, we joined Iwi, Council representatives and project partners for a cultural induction and opening karakia. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the history and significance of the area, build relationships, and start the project on the right foot.

We then fired up the MAP BBQ trailer and shared some kai – always a good way to bring people together.

Two Years of Hard Mahi. One Outstanding Result.

Great to see the Otawere Reservoir finished and operational.

This has been a big job for our team and our consortium partner Progressive Earthmoving Ltd, delivered for Te Tai Tokerau Water Trust. The reservoir, with a storage capacity of approximately 4 million cubic metres, will play an important part in improving water security and supporting growth across Northland for years to come.

A huge thanks to everyone involved, including Riley consultants for the design work and Viking Containment for installing the liner.

For MAP, this is another milestone in Northland. Otawere is our fourth major project completed in the region, and we've now established a permanent base there. We've built some great relationships along the way and are looking forward to what's next.

Projects like this don't happen without good people, strong partnerships, and plenty of hard work. Massive effort from everyone involved.

Great to see works well underway on the Ōtara River Stopbank Upgrade in Ōpōtiki for Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

We were privileged to begin the project with a karakia alongside Ngāti Ngāhere, acknowledging the significance of the whenua and the work ahead.

The team is now progressing stopbank improvements, floodwall replacement, culvert upgrades and access improvements that will help strengthen flood resilience for the local community.

Thanks also to Toi Moana BOPRC, local landowners and our crew for their support and commitment so far.

Great to see the Atiu Harbour Upgrade in the Cook Islands wrapped up — a challenging project in a truly remote location, made even more rewarding by the outcome for the local community. Led by Blair Smith, our South Pacific Business Manager, the team worked through some tough conditions alongside a strong local workforce to deliver a facility that will make a real difference for the island.

Big shout out to Matt Sullivan from Infrastructure Cook Islands who represented the Principal with professionalism and pragmatism throughout — an awesome engineer and a good person to have on your side when things get tough

Pacific Infrastructure Business Opportunities Seminar (PIBOS) 2026 brought together governments, development partners, and industry leaders in Fiji to explore upcoming infrastructure opportunities across the Pacific. The event focused on improving procurement, encouraging early market engagement, and strengthening collaboration to deliver better project outcomes across the region.

Given our hands-on experience across the Pacific, Mark Prater and Blair Smith were invited to attend and contribute. Mark spoke on a New Zealand Trade and Enterprise panel on how MAP successfully delivered projects in Vanuatu, and on an ADB Partnerships energy panel sharing what contractors look for when pursuing opportunities and how early contractor involvement (ECI) can drive better outcomes for clients.

It was a valuable few days gaining insight into upcoming work across the Pacific — and reinforcing how well positioned MAP is to support these future projects

Big moment for MAP Projects this week!

After a year as our MAP Pacific Business Manager, Blair Smith is officially relocating to Fiji with his family to run our Pacific operations.

Blair started his career with MAP as a young engineer, before gaining extensive experience in both contracting and consulting across the industry.
Over 14+ years, he’s built a strong reputation delivering complex civil, transport, and three waters projects, backed by commercial and strategic expertise.

Today in Nadi, Mark Prater handed over day-to-day Pacific operations to Blair – a proud milestone for both of them and for our business.

Blair brings the drive, passion, and people-first mindset that aligns perfectly with how we operate. We’re excited to see him lead the next phase of growth across the Pacific.
