Our client wanted a clean rectangle cut out of this piece of rock, and our waterjet stepped up to the challenge.

Stone doesn't give in easily, so the cut took the best part of half an hour, but we've spared you the boring bits.

Manson Engineering won our recent BBQ giveaway, so as promised, we got in touch with Team Bbqwar and headed out to site to feed the crew.

The bbq was fired up around lunchtime, with meats cooked low and slow over a few hours ready for a feast for the whole team that afternoon. A few of the OSCS boys headed out to join them (plate in hand!).

A big thanks to Manson Engineering for having us – great crew, good yarns, and not a lot left on the trays by the end of it.

Our fibre lasers focus all their power into a spot narrower than a human hair.

At that scale the numbers get crazy – several million watts per square millimetre. That's tens of thousands of times more intense than the surface of the sun 🤯

Nothing survives underneath it. Metal vaporises or melts on contact, with pinpoint accuracy down to the micron.

That's the difference between a part that nearly fits and a part that just fits.

Did you know "laser" is actually an acronym? Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

This was the next iteration in technology after the “maser” (same idea, just microwaves instead of light).

Even though microwaves sound gruntier, the light used for lasers is the reason they can be focussed into a tight, intense beam making them able to cut through metal with ease.

Check out our Trumpf laser in action – that green tint is the safety glass which adds light protection in addition to shielding operators from sparks and molten metal spatter.

Congratulations to the team at Big on their award for the Ōrākei intersection illuminated shrouds!

These shrouds were laser cut and bump folded right here at OSCS. Great to see the whole process come together – from a sheet of raw metal, to the finished product installed in the community.

Welcome to our newest team member, the LVD EASYFORM-9 170/30 press brake, who travelled all the way from Belgium to join our crew.

With 1,700 kN of force, 6-axis modular backgauge, and Easyform Laser Angle Measurement (ensuring accurate folding is consistently achieved), this press brake can fold material up to 3,050 mm long.

An addition to our existing press brakes, this adds more capacity so we can get your folding work done faster.
