Building resilience comes from knowing the risks you face and making changes that reduce the impact of those risks. Living sustainably means managing your resources so they serve you as well in the future as they do today. Appropriate Technology presently offers three services to improve your resilience and support your sustainability - refurbishment of battery packs commonly used by power tools,
assessments of your natural disaster resilience, and the design and installation of water management, irrigation, and simple solar systems.
1. Lithium-ion battery pack refurbishment. Modern battery driven power tools are widely used by homeowners and trades-people alike. Based largely on Lithium-ion chemistry, battery packs inevitably degrade in performance and capacity, and can reach the point where they will no longer charge. We can extend the life of these battery packs through refurbishing and re-balancing the individual cells.
2. Natural Disaster Resilience Assessments
Life in New Zealand brings with it the certainty of natural disasters with earthquakes and flooding being the most likely, and the most costly. How well prepared are you? How will you be impacted? We can assist your preparation for natural disasters with a personalized resilience assessment. Starting with an in-depth on-site discussion, we can identify your resources and risks, prepare a detailed assessment, and follow up with an in-person meeting to go over our recommendations.
3. Water Management Solutions
Increasingly, people are looking to grow their own food, and live a life in closer contact with nature. Lifestyle blocks, small farms, and tiny homes are part of a revolution in how we use natural resources - soil, water, sunlight, and wind - to live more simply and reduce our impact. We can help you set up systems that use these resources more sustainably and create resilience. Water harvesting, storage and delivery is key to surviving dry summers and drought. We can consult with you on what your options may be, prepare detailed proposals for a resilient system, and even install. We can also offer advice on simple grey water systems, composting toilets, wind and water power generation, and simple solar power systems.
