Congratulations to Rob Mackley and his team for flying the Lockheed 10 down to its new home at Omaka, what a machine! I thought something was wrong with this image when I first saw it due to the blue blotches on the tail and along the fuselage, but if you look closely its the colour of the water and the coast line mirrored on the fuselage!

One of only two airworthy Lockheed 10's flying world wide and photographed recently near Ardmore, New Zealand following a 27 year long restoration.
Owned by Rob Mackley it flew again for the first on January 31th 2024 and this photo was taken last Friday which happened to be the 90th Anniversary of the first flight of a Lockheed 10.
Ryan Southam is flying the aircraft in this photo and alongside him is Rob, thanks also to Frank Parker for flying Harvard 57 for this flight with an aircraft that looks like a flying trophy in flight, just stunning!

Thank you for all your kind comments.
A huge congratulations to Rob Mackley on turning his long-time dream of a flying Lockheed Electra 10A, (currently one of only two L10’s known to be airworthy in the world) into reality!

Having patiently sat waiting in the hangar for the past few years, ZK-AFD took to the air for the first time since the 1970’s, with Ryan Southam at the controls. The aircraft has already clocked up around 3 hours of the test flying schedule.

Hawk Aero Ltd would like to say a big Thank You to the large number of people and companies that contributed to and/or made this restoration possible.
The list would be pages long, but among many, many others:
Martin Hedley, Gary Lynne and the team at Pioneer Aero Restorations – for restoring the outer wing panels, tailplane outer panels, fins, tips, tail cone, rudders, ailerons, elevators.
Avspecs (Rotorua) – the late Colin Denholm, Warren Denholm and the team for restoring the centre section, flaps and engine cowling parts, undercarriage parts
Fieldair Engineering Ltd – Quentin Hughes (ret.), Bert and the team for assembling and testing the engines
Darren Pennel of ICEA Aviation, for the all-new electrical and avionics wiring
Tony Wytenburg at Classic Aero Machining – for helping out with those ‘unobtanium’ parts and upgrades
Paul Howman for his help and expertise with metal forming, wheeling and making new nacelle parts, door frame etc.
Greg Ryan of Aero Tech for overseeing the project, providing a listening ear, valuable advice & assistance
Paul Levitt of LP Aero – for his huge input during the ‘home stretch’ of the project
The late Keith Williamson, who did lots of behind-the-scenes work + components, tooling, picking things up around town and helping out with all sorts of tasks along the way
John Gold of Gold’s Upholstery, for the fantastic job on the leather seats, cushions, pockets, arm rests and hood lining
Russel Holdem, Trevor and the team at Flight Interiors for your assistance with interior panels
Iggy Wood for all your help with layout and formatting of the new aircraft manuals
Stan Smith, Richard Waterreus, Rob McNair, Mike Roberts, Eddie Larking, Alan Butler, Brian Mumme, Jaren Kohlis, Peter O’Gara, Roy King, Gary Leach, MOTAT, Brent at Vinyl Impact….
And many, many, many more fantastic people who contributed along the way – a big thank you to you all!
