♻️ Sustainability is part of how we operate. Great to have Metalco on site recently collecting our scrap metal and keeping valuable materials out of landfill. Doing our bit, one load at a time.

Big thanks to the Metalco team for their awesome service!👏

👷‍♂️ Meet James – RBS Managing Director & Founder

Say hello to James, the driving force behind RBS Group! With 32 years in the construction industry, he’s our resident ideas man, problem solver, and the one who brings big visions to life. He founded RBS Group to do things differently — offering a seamless concept to completion model that delivers projects with clarity, quality, and care, removing the usual overlaps and disconnects that come with multiple parties being involved.

Outside of work, James is a devoted dad to his three boys. Whether he’s cheering them on from the sidelines, helping them navigate life, or just hanging out together, family is always at the centre of his world.

When he gets some downtime, you’ll find James watching sports, out boating or fishing, or enjoying good food with good company. And while he’s more of a “spectator sport specialist” these days, he’s always (and somewhat alarmingly) ready to lace up the rugby boots if someone even hints they’re short a player. 🏉

Fun fact: If there’s a game on, a feed nearby, or a chance to jump on the field, James is already there. 😆

Re-roof, Soffit Replacement, and Seismic Upgrade - 69 Town Centre, Tūrangi

We first met with the Ngāti Tūrangitukua Trustees in late 2020 to discuss the future options for their property at 69 Town Centre, Tūrangi. Since that time, we have worked diligently with the Trust and their representatives to help navigate those options, providing detailed budgets, revised cost plans, and clear, honest advice as circumstances evolved.

That collaborative process ultimately led to a considered two-stage delivery approach, completed in early 2025 and early 2026. The scope included a like-for-like roof replacement to resolve longstanding leaks, replacement of soffits to improve both performance and appearance, and, finally, a seismic upgrade to ensure the building could continue to safely and compliantly accommodate its key government tenant, MSD.

Throughout the project, we worked alongside a wide range of stakeholders, including the Trust, the property manager, the design team, MSD, Tūrangi Bakery, and neighbouring businesses and building owners. We are sincerely grateful to all parties for their trust, cooperation, and patience as we delivered the works in a tricky location.

Importantly, all construction was completed while tenants and surrounding businesses remained operational. As with any complex, live environment project, challenges arose along the way; however, these were addressed in a pragmatic, efficient, and solutions-focused manner at all times.

As always, we would also like to acknowledge and thank our subcontractors and suppliers for their flexibility, professionalism, and support—particularly in working within a slightly unorthodox delivery model. Their commitment was critical to achieving a successful outcome.

It almost seems like we were never there! 🚧👷🛠

📣 We’re incredibly proud of Aimee (and her four‑legged sidekick Ted! 🐶) for taking on the Move Your Butt for Bowel Cancer challenge this month.

With just two days to go, they’ve already walked an incredible distance and have only 5km left to hit the 100km mark.

Thanks to the generosity of friends, whānau, and our community, Aimee has already surpassed her fundraising goal — raising $455 against her original target of $100. An amazing effort for a cause that affects thousands of Kiwi families every year. 💚💚💚

Will they make it to 100km? 🤔 We’re backing them all the way. 💪

If you’d like to support Aimee and Ted in their final stretch, donations can be made here 👇

Hickling Park is complete! 🎉🚧

We’re proud to have handed over another community-focused project – the finished Hickling Park facilities to the Taupō District Council — transforming the repurposed Tūrangitukua Park changeroom containers into fresh, functional spaces for local sports and community use.

A massive thank‑you to the Taupō subcontractors and suppliers who helped us bring this project to life. Their mahi is what made this upgrade possible and delivered it in a timely fashion.

Delivered by locally owned and operated businesses, this project is another great example of the circular economy in action: reducing waste, supporting local jobs, and strengthening our community. 💪🛠👏

We’re proud to have brought the vision for Tutetawhā Marae to life! Entrusted with the value engineering, redesign, and reconstruction in 2019, RBS Group worked closely with the marae and trustees on this truly special project.

Our team successfully reimagined and value-engineered this project, which included the construction of a new 600m² Wharekai, proudly featuring the natural beauty of its structural timber components. The design included concealed connections between beams and columns to create a seamless structure that flows throughout the building.

Extensive renovations were carried out on the nearly 100-year-old Wharepuni. This had to be lifted off the ground, re-piled, with new bearers, extension, insulation, fire code upgrades, and structural upgrades. A carefully crafted korowai was constructed around the existing building, effectively preserving its historical significance and tikanga while enhancing its structural integrity. The exterior cladding for both buildings features Abodo timber, renowned for its exceptional weather resistance and durability. A lot of effort went into ensuring that both buildings will be low-maintenance for the Marae in the future.

Fencing & construction of the Waharoa and Pae Manuhiri have since been completed through collaboration with MSD.

As the main contractor, RBS Group played a vital role in coordinating with designers and stakeholders while managing all aspects of project planning, project management, and monitoring. We also upheld legal, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities, prioritizing health and safety at every stage of the project.

We are incredibly proud of our team and the stakeholders involved for what has been achieved, in sometimes testing environments, which included a Covid-19 lockdown.

With the marae now open, we’re excited to share photos of this stunning transformation.

We are making progress at Hickling Park 🚧🛠

In collaboration with Taupō District Council, we’re repurposing the changeroom containers from Tūrangitukua Park in Tūrangi to give them a new home in Taupō. Soon, the park will offer showers and toilets to better support our local sports teams and community activities.

This Taupō community project is proudly delivered by locally owned and operated businesses, and is a great example of the circular economy in action—reducing waste, supporting local jobs, and building a stronger community.

✅ SiteWise GOLD — 100% Score Achieved Again

We’re pleased to share that we’ve once again achieved SiteWise GOLD certification, with a perfect score of 100% on our annual health and safety assessment.

This result reflects the consistent effort our team puts into maintaining high standards across each site. Health and safety is a core part of how we operate, and we’re proud to see that commitment recognised.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen — it’s a team effort, and we’re grateful for the continued support.
