Position: Workshop 2IC
Stewart & Cavalier Ltd is a diverse engineering company with over 70 years of experience in manufacturing, mechanical maintenance, project work, and general engineering activities. Located in the scenic rural town of Te Awamutu in the Waikato district, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service to our customers.
To continue our tradition of excellence, we are seeking a talented Workshop 2IC to join our dynamic team. This position offers a varied and interesting work environment that includes both manufacturing and site work throughout the Waikato region.
The Workshop 2IC works closely with the Workshop Manager to co-ordinate daily operations, leading a team of tradesmen to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality repairs/production, handling workflow, quality control, inventory, and staff development, often remaining hands-on while meeting targets and upholding safety standards in automotive, manufacturing, or engineering settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and motivate tradesmen and apprentices; delegate tasks, monitor performance, and foster skill development.
Operations & Workflow:
Plan and organise daily work, schedule jobs, ensure efficient resource use, and manage workflow to meet deadlines.
Quality Control:
Monitor repairs for quality, ensure compliance with standards, and oversee the application of QA processes.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce health and safety regulations, conduct training, and maintain a safe work environment.
Inventory & Resources:
Manage parts inventory, order supplies, and coordinate with suppliers.
Customer & Stakeholder Liaison:
Address customer issues, coordinate with other departments, and manage external contractors.
Reporting & Administration:
Maintain records, track equipment, and assist with budgeting/reporting.
Essential Skills & Attributes
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Technical knowledge relevant to the specific workshop (automotive, mechanical, etc.).
Ability to remain hands-on while managing others.
Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
