Draftline was established in 1993 by Pat Coll whilst working at the Timaru District Council as the Drawing Office Manager. There was an opportunity to help local builders out who were up until that point trying to draw their own plans to obtain building consents. As the workload steadily increased, Pat then took to Architectural Draughting full time 8 years later assisting a large number of local
builders with their plans, and also extend his stomping ground to the Mackenzie District with his passion for the area and his long affiliation with the Town of Twizel. As the work load increased and with CAD becoming more of the norm, a couple of younger draughtsman joined the team, to assist with keeping up with the increasing client base, and the increases in technical requirements to obtain building consents, and take the stress out of this process for builders and other clients. In 2010 Pat and his wife Donna purchased the Royal Hotel in Timaru, an iconic heritage listed hotel in the heart of the Timaru CBD. After an extensive renovation, fitout and change of use to convert ground floor space to multiple commercial tenancies, Draftline took residence in this new location and thus enabling the team to grow. Staff numbers increased from Pat and two contract CAD operators through to having 6 staff crammed into the modest sized office, and also spreading into satellite offices in North Otago and Christchurch to help service other districts. In 2017 a larger commercial building was purchased across the road and new offices constructed to cater for the expanding team and allow better facilities to conduct operations from. The team continued to grow with the expanding workload and new key staff joined the team, to assist in keeping up with the forever changing climate of the industry. In 2021 with Pat wanting to take a step into semi-retirement and spend more time in Twizel the company was sold to Simon Loutitt who with his wealth of business and management skills and local authority experience, this seemed like the perfect changing of the guard. This has resulted in the rapid expansion of the team with opening a full Christchurch operation, with a focus on building on the foundations Pat has created, and provide exceptional design and draughting services for the industry to ensure success in all projects undertaken, develop ongoing relationships with all stake holders and strive to provide a service and experience that leads the way in the industry.
