Attika and Alpine Buildings’ new Washdyke site marks a significant reinvestment in our South Canterbury base.

Bringing operations together on one purpose-built site strengthens how we work, improves efficiency, and creates room for future growth.

It’s a practical investment in Canterbury, regional industry, and the capability needed to keep supporting commercial, industrial, and rural building projects across New Zealand.

Yesterday we officially opened our new national hub in Washdyke, Timaru. Thank-you to MP James Meager who joined us to cut the ribbon, and the turnout from our suppliers, clients and community was something else.

Getting the right people under one roof. Building a space that supports better collaboration, smarter delivery and long-term growth. And backing the region we've called home for over three decades.
32 years ago this business started in a home garage. This felt like a good next chapter.

Thank you to everyone who came along, seeing it all come together with our team, clients, partners and suppliers made it a day worth remembering.

Silverdale Project starting to look very different from above.

Tilt panels are now going up on site, with structural steel installation kicking off next week. One of those stages where the scale of the build really starts to reveal itself.

Higher interest rates. Slower leasing. Tight lending. Delays.

• The lease clauses that business owners often underestimate at the start

If you own, lease, invest in, or are planning a commercial or industrial facility, this one’s worth getting in your inbox.

A commercial or industrial facility can look like a smart move right up until the market changes.

Higher interest rates, slower leasing, tighter lending, construction delays. This is where property decisions get tested.

Before committing to a commercial property decision, it’s worth asking the question, What breaks first?

Our latest article explores the pressure points that business owners, developers and investors should be stress-testing before they sign, build or buy.

The lease clauses you shouldn’t ignore.

Make-good obligations. Rent review clauses. Maintenance responsibilities. Access restrictions... The details that seem minor during negotiations can end up affecting operating costs, flexibility, and how your site functions day to day.

A rare moment with the full Attika team all in one place at our new HQ.

Most days, projects are moving across different regions, job sites, meetings and screens, so getting everyone together was a good reset and a chance to plan what’s next.

Strong businesses are built by strong teams, and this week was a good reminder of that.

The People Behind the Projects

Every project carries the thinking and judgement of the people involved.
At Attika, our team works alongside clients from the earliest stages, helping shape ideas, ask the right questions and build strong foundations.

We’re sharing a little more about the people who make that possible.

Meet Craig Buist: Commercial and Procurement Lead at Attika.

Craig brings more than 30 years of construction experience, with a focus on commercial delivery, procurement, and building value across both residential and large-scale commercial projects.

Now based in Christchurch, his role sits at the intersection of planning, procurement, and delivery, helping ensure projects are set up properly from the start and stay on track as they move forward. His career has taken him from the UK to New Zealand, and across to Australia, giving him a broad perspective on how different markets operate and how to adapt to each.

Craig is at his best when involved early. He works closely with teams during the planning phase, helping shape decisions that reduce risk, strengthen outcomes, and avoid unnecessary issues later. Having worked across decades of projects, he brings a practical lens to challenges and a steady hand when things don’t go to plan.

A key part of his approach is how he works with people. He builds strong, respectful relationships with contractors and suppliers, and is known for being direct, fair, and easy to deal with. That balance matters, especially when navigating complex procurement decisions or commercial negotiations.

He’s solution-focused and commercially sharp, with a focus on cost control, clarity, and getting the right outcomes for the project and the people behind it.

Craig’s role is straightforward: support the team, strengthen the commercial position of each project, and make sure delivery is set up to succeed from the outset.
