We really enjoyed being part of the South Canterbury Year 11 Pathways Expo yesterday... such great energy in the room!

Over the day, we spoke with around 800 students and had some awesome conversations about all sorts of futures. There was a lot of interest in finance in particular, alongside creative paths like authors and painters, and careers in law.

It was a great chance to show that while people often think of Alpine as just having lines people and engineers, there’s so much more happening from finance and digital to customer, HR and marketing.

Our “Find Your Fit” quiz was a hit too, helping students see options they might not have considered! Huge thanks to the organisers (Mayors Taskforce for Jobs Timaru and Timaru District Council) for putting on such a valuable event and our people for taking time out to help nurture the future generations of work!

🌞 Solar update – and why it’s good news for you.

When your solar panels make more electricity than your home needs, the extra power flows back into our local electricity network.

Until now, how much power you could send back depended on where you lived and how much capacity the network had. Many households were limited to 5 kW.

From 1 May 2026, there’ll be a standard export limit of up to 10 kW for homes, in line with national rules.

👉 Why this matters:
This change means customers can get more value from their solar system. More spare solar power can be shared instead of wasted, helping solar systems pay for themselves faster. It also makes it easier for households to plan for the future - like adding an electric vehicle or battery - while helping keep the electricity network reliable and supporting the wider community.

✅ Most households won’t notice any change
✅ You can still use all the solar power your system makes
✅ Existing solar systems can apply to increase export to 10 kW here: https://www.alpineenergy.co.nz/customers/generating-electricity/distributed-generation-application. Tick the "Increase Distributed Generation" box.

In some areas, lower limits may still apply to protect local power quality and keep the network running safely for everyone.

If you’re installing or upgrading solar, talk to your electrical contractor or solar installer, who can help guide you through the application process.

💗 Today on Pink Shirt Day, we stand together against bullying - and for workplaces where everyone feels safe, respected and valued.

We’re committed to building that culture every day. Today, we’ve taken another step with a new e-learning module to help our people recognise the behaviours that can cause harm and give them confidence to speak up.

A big thank you to our team for getting behind this, including donating to this worthy cause!

Because positive workplaces don’t happen by chance... they’re something we choose, every day. Let’s keep choosing respect 💗

💨It may look calm out there, but strong north-west winds are forecast from 2pm, today through to early Saturday. MetService New Zealand is warning of strong winds (orange) in the Canterbury High Country, with severe gusts up to 120km/h and 140km/h in more exposed areas.

These winds may bring down trees and debris, which can affect our lines, and cause power outages. If you're in Fairlie rural, Tekapo Lilybank, Godley Peaks and Mt Cook, please be prepared. Secure loose items, charge devices, and have torches and warm clothing handy. If you rely on electricity for medical equipment, please check your backup plans.

Our crews are ready and monitoring conditions closely.
