Progress is continuing on safer walking and cycling connections across Kāpiti 🚴🏼‍♀️

We’ve now completed the Peka Peka Road safety improvements. Running from the old state highway roundabout to Paetawa Road, the 2.4km stretch has been identified as a priority area for cycleway improvements. Works included widening vehicle lanes and building 1.5m sealed shoulders, with approximately 500m of road widened on both sides.

A huge thank you to our subcontractors PCL Contracting Ltd who undertook the chipseal works at our Peka Peka site 👏🏼

Work has also commenced on a new 645m shared path along the northern side of Park Avenue in Waikanae, running from near 44 Park Avenue to the Wrestling Club driveway. The path will make travel safer and easier for cyclists, walkers, mobility scooter users, and people with pushchairs, with new pedestrian crossings and refuge islands also being added.

Together, these projects are helping create a more connected, accessible, and safe network for the Kāpiti community 🙌🏼

Our team is nearing completion of Stage Two at Island Bay School, bringing the new central courtyard and accessibility upgrades to life.

Following the successful delivery of Stage One, it’s been great to see the school community already benefiting from the improved access and functionality. Stage Two has built on that foundation, with the demolition of an old building to make way for new accessible concrete ramps, concrete courtyard areas, access steps with varied finishes, paving, planter boxes, seating, and associated drainage.

The transformation is now clearly visible, with the courtyard space coming together and final finishes underway. This upgraded area will provide a safer, more accessible, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the wider community.

Swipe through to see this project come to life, from day one of the demolition to the finished result 🚧➡️✨

A huge effort from the team and our subcontractors to get us to this point - nearly there 👏

Wellington High School – Fencing & Heritage Wall Upgrade 🧱

We’re excited to showcase a new project, the replacement of fencing and strengthening of the heritage brick retaining wall at Wellington High School. This wall is Category 2 heritage listed by Wellington City Council, all works are carefully monitored by an archaeologist and approved by Heritage New Zealand to protect its historical significance.

The Tasman Street Wall is the oldest surviving structure within the former Mt Cook Reserve, built from bricks made on site by prisoners, reflecting the area’s history. The oldest section of the wall dates from at least 1891, with later additions and modifications reflecting its continued use.

The wall strengthening is a key part of the project, allowing the construction of a new car park while preserving the integrity of this historic structure.

The project involves:
• Strengthening the existing brick retaining wall with ground anchors, remediating damage to the brick drainage chamber
• Excavation, earthworks and preparation for a new asphalt car park, associated kerbs and road marking
• New drainage and landscaping
• New retaining wall structure and vehicle ramp 🚗

Our teams are well underway with stage two at Island Bay School, delivering a new central courtyard, as part of the wider accessibility upgrades. 🚸

Prior to Christmas, our teams successfully delivered stage one, delivering new accessibility ramps and associated works located in the lower courtyard. It’s great to see the school community utilising the improved access and functionality.

The scope of stage 2 includes:
* Earthworks and demolition of existing structures
* Construction of new accessible concrete ramps
* Construction of new exposed aggregate central courtyard
* New concrete access steps, alternating finishes including broom finish and exposed aggregate
* Installation of new pavers
* Construction and installation of timber planter boxes
* Supply and installation of bench seating
* Associated drainage works

The space is already starting to take shape, with the central courtyard almost ready for the concrete pour next week. Well done team 👏🏼

We’re proud to be involved in the Taitā Connected Communities Transport Project for Hutt City Council, delivering infrastructure that creates safer, more connected spaces for the local community 🚲🚶‍♂️

The scope of works included the full delivery of a separated shared walking and cycling facility designed to significantly enhance accessibility, safety, and connectivity throughout Taitā. A continuous shared path was constructed from the northern end of Harcourt Werry Drive at Fraser Park through to Walter Nash Stadium, Taitā Train Station, and the local shopping centre, providing a safe and accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project also incorporated key safety upgrades at major intersections, including new dual pedestrian–cyclist crossings, additional pedestrian crossing points, and new bus stops and shelters. All works were carefully integrated with existing transport networks to ensure seamless connections and long-term benefits for the wider community.

Well done to our on-site teams and subcontractors PCL Contracting Ltd delivering another great project 👏🏼
