A question we get asked a lot by clients is, **“Do solar panels withstand the wind in windy Wellington?”**
Wellington uses standard New Zealand wind zone classifications, defined under the NZS 3604:2011 standard, to determine building and structural requirements.
When you’re installing solar in high-wind zones, this affects the distances between L-brackets, exclusion zones and, in some instances, requires additional support rails.
On this Ngaio job in the video, Alex is talking about the home being in an SED wind zone, which is the highest of the six standard wind zones, with wind speeds over 55 m/s.
The project will need engineering sign-off checking our brackets, railings and exlusion zones ensuring the system will safely resist the wind uplift.
