Interior sneak peek 👀

We pride ourselves on being flexible and working closely with our clients to ensure every cabin is tailored to suit their needs. Partway through this build, our client wanted to swap the sliding door for a bifold, and we were more than happy to accommodate.

There’s a small list left to tick off - skirting and architraves, staining and clear-coating, and the exterior deck and step.

We’re full steam ahead to have everything wrapped up before carpet goes in next week!

Great progress on our Kōwhai custom cabin 🌿

The Colorsteel cladding is on, electrical wiring is complete, and insulation is in. It’s rewarding to see everything coming together and taking shape.

Next up is Shadowclad on the front face and soffits, followed by the interior linings. We’re getting close to completion and looking forward to those final touches that bring the whole space together!

🌧️ This week’s weather is doing its best to slow us down, but we are full steam ahead with our first cabin of 2026; a Kowhai Custom.

Last week the team progressed with foundations and framing. It’s always a good feeling seeing a build take shape from the ground up. Joinery is being delivered to site today and the next stage is already underway!

As of 15 January 2026, the rules have officially changed.
Standalone granny flats up to 70m² can now be built without building consent (conditions apply).

That means:
✔ Less red tape
✔ Faster build times
✔ Lower upfront costs

At River Meadow Retreats, all of our layouts are under 70m² and have been thoughtfully designed to suit the new regulations. Whether you’re looking to house family, create guest accommodation, or add rental income, it’s never been easier to get started.

Our standard floor plan options offer 1, 2 and 3-bedroom arrangements, but don't forget, all of our cabins are fully customizable. Internal layouts can be reconfigured and tailored to meet your specific needs.
