Thursday was an entertaining day. It had been bucketing down with rain for about day and a half and the turning area at the ab centre was a little bit greasy. The nitrogen delivery van with its wee city tyres got stuck! 🤣🤣🤣 A push from a couple of us soon got it moving again.

As well as operating a SIL Bureau for stud sheep breeders, we run a DEER Select Bureau for deer farmers. Sometimes the data arrives in beautifully formatted excel files. And sometimes it arrives like the pic below.

We are stoked with the conception rates from this year's AI so far! Some non return and scanning results have come through and they range from 75% to 89%. Thats the result of great team work of the breeders as well as our team. Pre and post AI management is important! Happy well managed sheep are more likely to hold to AI!

The Artificial Insemination season is now over for another year, ending on a high yesterday. We inseminated 250 Merino ewes with Australian and NZ genetics - the most ewes we have done in a day this season.

The Genetics Forum yesterday and the Out the Gate conference today were packed full of ideas and discussion re the future of the NZ sheep industry, and were very positive! The vibe from the breeders and industry people is very positive.
SIL/nProve are planning to release version 8 of the NZGE in August this year and it will include the developments listed in the attached Pic. Many other developments are planned for the next few years.
Lamb prices are expected to stay good for the foreseeable future.

Our second adventure for AI this week was in to possibly the most remote high country stations in NZ. It takes 2.5 hours to drive in using a 4WD and the road is rough! Somehow our most essential gear fitted in a 4WD for the journey. Thanks so much for the opportunity Muzzle Station!
