We recently teamed up with Auckland Transport to replace two failing perched culverts with a new 3m x 4m reinforced concrete box culvert.
This upgrade isn't just about better water flow; it’s a huge win for local wildlife. The new design helps native fish migrate upstream to Slipper and Spectacle Lakes—vital feeding grounds for the endangered Fairy Tern.
Great to see engineering and ecology working hand in hand!

The Auckland Council Centennial Park redevelopment hit an important milestone last week when the second main concrete pour of the netball/ tennis courts took place.
This follows the first main pour which took place late in January. Both pours commenced at approx. 2.00am and went through to late morning, with post-pour concrete care carried out over the following few days.
Approximately 450 cubic meters of concrete was needed for the court section of this project! This must now cure for 3-4 weeks before the final playing surface is installed.
Upcoming works include installing kerbs, resurfacing a section of carpark and installing the netball poles and tennis unit.

Road rebuild works to begin on SH12 Paparoa

A full pavement reconstruction of State Highway 12 at Paparoa is set to start next Monday 9 February and be underway for approximately 8 weeks.

Work will take place between Pahi Road and Paparoa township during the day from 6:30am to 5:30pm.

A single lane closure will be in place 24/7 with stop/go traffic management or traffic lights and a 30km/h temporary speed limit at all times. The work will finish ahead of Easter holiday weekend.

People are urged to plan ahead and expect travel delays of approximately 5 minutes.

The pavement reconstruction includes reshaping, stabilising and chipsealing.

Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.

Please treat our crews with kindness and respect. Reduce your speed, adhere to the temporary speed limits and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.

Rebuilding the road, which often involves replacing all or most of the structural road layers, improves the longevity of the network, the resilience and ultimately the safety and efficiency for all road users.

We do our best to stick to planned dates for state highway maintenance work, but weather, unforeseen circumstances, or other factors may cause changes. Before heading out, check the NZTA Journey Planner for the latest updates: https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/journey-planner

Wharehine crews were kept busy yesterday clearing SH1 in the Dome! Please be safe on the roads during this unpredictable weather.

Take extra care on Northland roads tomorrow.

There is a greater risk of road hazards like fallen trees, slips, and flooding, with Heavy Rain Warnings in place across the region and further rainfall forecast for tomorrow. Drive to the conditions, stay alert, and allow extra time for your journey as the weather system moves through. Our contractors are monitoring at-risk locations and clearing drains and culverts to ensure the state highway network remains safe and accessible.

What you can do:
• Increase following distances and reduce speed if conditions deteriorate
• Turn headlights on, even during daytime rain
• Where possible, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain
