Over the last few months, school visits and community days have helped us plant natives along the perimeter and through the wetlands. It's been fantastic to have so many hands involved, and the site is looking great.

Every safety story has a lesson that could help protect someone else.

This year, we launched the second season of our Critical Risk Stories, I Have the Power, giving our people the opportunity to share honest reflections on serious incidents and near misses they’ve experienced throughout their careers.

From vehicle incidents and falling objects to working around live electricity, these stories bring our critical risk controls to life and remind us why speaking up when something doesn’t feel safe matters.

The videos have been shared across Northpower and discussed by our field teams during monthly safe team meetings, creating opportunities to reflect, learn from each other and have meaningful conversations about safety.

As we look ahead to season three, we’ll continue sharing the experiences that help keep our people safe. Because every one of us has the power to speak up, stop and look out for each other.

We're giving our Wairua Power Station a bit of a birthday! ⚡

The old girl is getting a full upgrade, with new generating units and penstocks, relining the canal and some improvements to help protect the river's ecology.

Once the work's complete, we'll be more than doubling the station's annual generation, from around 12 to 23.5 gigawatt hours. That's enough to power approximately 2,000 more homes across Northland!

Northpower is transforming the way we inspect and manage our electricity network, using drone technology and advanced imaging to help keep power flowing safely and reliably across Northland.

Led by our Inspection Solutions team, the Network Drone Inspection Programme combines traditional ground inspections with high-resolution aerial imagery and thermal scanning to provide a more complete picture of network asset health.

The results have been impressive. In just four months, the team inspected around 12,300 power poles across Northland, completing inspections around three times faster than traditional methods while improving safety and delivering higher-quality asset data.

By identifying potential issues earlier and using better data to guide maintenance decisions, we're helping build a more resilient network for the future. We're also working alongside other electricity networks across New Zealand to support the development of AI-powered inspection tools that could further improve how networks are maintained in years to come.
