Replicore New Zealand Ltd

Replicore New Zealand Ltd We provide the vintage car and aircraft community with the best quality reproduction radiator cores in the world and use only the best materials avaliable.

We offer advice to help those in need come up with a desired solution, from concept to completion. This has led to an increasing demand for complete aircraft coolers including shells along with recoring and refurbishing of car radiators and on occasion full builds. Replicore offers mainstream cartridge radiator cores through to specialised and unique builds. We have embraced the need to give you t

he customer what you want. Some of these cores that Replicore has made cannot be found anywhere else in the world. This demonstrates our passion for the industry as a whole. It is only with the input of our sister engineering company that we are able to achieve this. Our policy is to reproduce as per original specification if drawings are available or reverse engineer when we are fortunate enough to have a genuine core to copy. Often we need to build from old photos from an almost forgotten era and scale to get as close as possible in the reproduction. We believe our core manufacture to be the best quality in the world produced today and to achieve this we only use copper imported directly from Germany.

The pictures show two P40 oil coolers, new made by Replicore, modeled on the Harrison Mfr. 87-46-576 and 87-46-713. These oil coolers have the Harrison cross flow baffle which better moderates the oil temperature at the centre of the core in all air temperatures both at startup and in flight. Both of these coolers offer 1990 BTU/min/100F, a 9% improvement over the earlier Young Model at 1830 BTU/min/100F. The difference between these two Harrison versions is only in the design of the valve platform. One cooler has a "2-hole" platform to fit a DV8 Vernatherm valve, the other a "3-hole" platform for a Harrison rotary valve. Hot and cold pressure tested with additional oil flow testing carried to verify back pressure at different operating temperatures.

Spitfire progress update....

We have now completed the MK9 Spitfire Oil Cooler rebuild that goes with the radiators and intercooler posted last year.

This job started as a simple re-core job and eventuated into making a new shell, internal stiffeners, baffles, dividers, casings, valve block, avimo and fittings. A lot more work and effort has gone into doing this which is seen with the end result which we can be proud of. It is not perfect but for our first attempt we are pretty stoked with the outcome.

This project has furthered our skills and we look forward to our next adventure.

Another set of P40 radiators heading to an awaiting customer. Hope they are as happy with the end product as we are.

If you enjoy jigsaw puzzles then this is for you. This handed pair of oil coolers are each assembled in a specific and unforgiving order from 70 brass and tinned steel parts, held together with 100's of 1/8” copper and steel rivets of varying lengths and types which are supported internally by numerous burrs, being careful to solder sections as you go. After the assembly and soldering is completed, 4 dipped core blocks each of approx. 234 copper tubes are soldered into the shell. Cold and hot testing completes the manufacturing process, then external finishing, then a final test. These oil coolers were made for and have flown in Lewis Air Legends Mosquito FBVI PZ474. One photo shows a Port oil cooler beside an original Morris Motors example.

This set of two Spitfire MKIX reconditioned radiators and intercooler were a first for us. Their condition on arrival was assessed as being viable for reconditioning in terms of the integrity of the brass in the tanks. The reconditioning process for the steel work and tanks involved a complete strip-down and de-rust, full tinning, re-riveting all parts and fitting new Avimo's and drain outlets. These parts were then assembled around new replica Morris Motors cores and the finished product was cold and hot tested. Positioning of the outlets and frames was based on a set of original drawings. Happy as with them.

Spitfire progress update:

Original top and bottom tanks have just been soldered onto our new core block ready for initial hot testing later today.

New avimo, tie bolts, nuts and fittings have been made but have recycled the tanks and pipes. Once this set is completed our next ones will all be made from new components.

We are on a high.
This week we successfully dipped our first core for a Spitfire. Whew!! It’s an intercooler core for a MK9, a process which involves full immersion dipping in a 1.35 tonne bath of solder. More will follow soon when we repeat the process for the two radiator core blocks.
