Exterior insulated roof using EPS foam. Different architectural designs require different approaches to control heat gain into the home. This one in particular has exposed ceiling rafters on the interior, limiting options to reduce radiant heat from entering the occupied space. Without insulation, it directly impacts the owner’s comfort and increases electricity useage to run air conditioning units.

It’s hard to communicate why certain types of construction details are better than others, but a thermal image camera helps visualize exactly the parts of your home that make it uncomfortable.

This image shows a roof assembly that allows a lot of heat into the home and requires AC to make it comfortable.

Ideally your architect has these details in the plans, but if not the it’s important that your contractor has the experience and knowledge to reduce the heat gain and loss in your home and lower your energy consumption.
