Safe power station operation goes beyond technical skill—it requires discipline and respect for high-voltage energy. After completing High Voltage Training in Lae, I’ve learned that real competence comes from strict adherence to safety protocols and the “test-before-touch” principle.

Confidence in this environment isn’t about risk-taking; it’s about understanding how equipment behaves under load and fault conditions. Whether operating circuit breakers, handling drop-out fuses, or managing HRC fuses, every action depends on proper isolation, verification, and the use of correct tools and procedures.

This training shifted my mindset—from uncertainty to control. Now, every task is approached with clear hazard awareness and the confidence to execute safely.

High Voltage Training – Lae | 26 January

We recently ran a High Voltage training session in Lae focused on remote and local switches and their role in isolation procedures when preparing a switching schedule.

The training covered how these switching methods are used to safely isolate equipment during HV operations and highlighted the importance of following the correct procedures to protect both personnel and equipment.

Ongoing training like this helps strengthen safety awareness and improve operational knowledge when working around high-voltage systems.

Wabing Stahl began his career with ELCOM now known as PNG Power back when the industry was being built from the ground up.

With over 30 years of hands-on experience, he’s one of the founding people behind Dabai Engineering, carrying decades of lessons, standards, and hard-earned knowledge into every job we do today.

This is where the story begins.
