Jinji Lake Pavilion — where tradition meets contemporary form 🌊
Designed by BIG, the *Jinji Lake Pavilion* reinterprets the architectural language of traditional Chinese pavilions through a contemporary geometric expression.
Located along the waterfront of Jinji Lake in Suzhou, the project creates a lightweight public structure that blends landscape, culture, and social interaction into a single spatial experience.
The pavilion’s flowing roof geometry appears both sculptural and familiar—drawing inspiration from classical Chinese rooflines while translating them into a modern parametric form. Openings between the layered surfaces allow light, air, and views to move freely through the structure, strengthening the connection between visitors and the surrounding lake landscape.
Rather than functioning as an isolated object, the pavilion acts as an extension of the public realm—a place for gathering, resting, and experiencing the changing atmosphere of the waterfront.
A project where contemporary architecture respectfully echoes cultural memory.

THE STRATA VERDE INTEGRATED TRANSPORT HUB IN DONTOGAN, BAGUIO CITY, TAKES INSPIRATION FROM THE ICONIC RICE TERRACES OF THE CORDILLERAS, TRANSLATING THEIR CASCADING, ORGANIC RHYTHM INTO A MODERN ARCHITECTURAL FORM. THE UNDULATING ROOFLINES ECHO THE LAYERED CONTOURS OF THE TERRACES, BLENDING THE STRUCTURE HARMONIOUSLY WITH THE SURROUNDING MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE.

THIS DESIGN PROMOTES SUSTAINABILITY BY INTEGRATING NATURAL VENTILATION, DAYLIGHTING, AND GREEN SPACES. STRATA VERDE SERVES AS A GATEWAY THAT WEAVES TRADITION AND INNOVATION, OFFERING A FUNCTIONAL YET SYMBOLIC HUB THAT CONNECTS PEOPLE, PLACE, AND CULTURE.

The interiors of Shizen House embrace natural textures and warm, earthy tones, reflecting the Japandi philosophy of simplicity and authenticity. Hardwood flooring and details bring warmth and grounding, while limewash wall finishes add a soft, matte texture that enhances natural light and gives a calm, organic feel. Ashlar stone accents offer subtle contrast and timeless character, anchoring key spaces like the foyer or feature walls. Rattan furniture and decor add a light, handcrafted touch, blending seamlessly with the minimalist aesthetic while introducing texture and cultural warmth to the home.

Shizen House is a two-storey Japandi-style residence that embodies the seamless harmony between nature and modern living. Inspired by the Japanese word “shizen” (自然), meaning “nature” or “natural state,” the home is designed to reflect organic simplicity, calmness, and balance—core principles of both Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth. Natural materials, neutral tones, and fluid indoor-outdoor connections create a sanctuary that promotes mindful, clutter-free living. The name Shizen House was chosen to reflect not just the architectural style, but the deeper lifestyle philosophy it represents—a home that honors nature, authenticity, and the quiet beauty of simplicity.
