Getting their creative juices flowing, Cohort 10 of the CSU Office of the Technology Business Incubator (CSU-TBI) engaged in a Marketing and Branding Workshop on October 1 at the Navigatu Facility, Hiraya Hall.

Resource speaker Ms. Ara Calo, Marketing Head of the shared services facility FSUU Miracle and TBI Focal, led the morning session with an insightful discussion clarifying the distinction between marketing and branding, emphasizing how strong brand identities drive customer value and loyalty.

In the afternoon, the startups put theory into practice through hands-on activities designed to sharpen their market positioning and refine their brand messaging. To translate their ideas into actionable steps, participants developed comprehensive marketing campaign planners tailored to reach and engage their target customers effectively.

The collaborative session was also attended by CCIS faculty members and delegates from CSU Cabadbaran Campus, fostering cross-campus learning and regional network building within the startup community.

By equipping Cohort 10 with essential marketing and branding strategies, CSU TBI continues to empower early-stage innovators to build distinct, market-ready enterprises capable of making a lasting impact.

Reinforcing the Caraga State University’s commitment to its entrepreneurial vision, the Office of the Technology Business Incubator attended DOST Caraga’s Capacity Building and Training on Startup and Technopreneurship together with the faculty members of the College of Computing and Information Sciences on September 29-30 at the Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City.

DOST Caraga Regional Director Engr. Noel Ajoc welcomed the participants and cited his observations with the startup ecosystem in other countries. He emphasized that graduate students should immerse themselves in the startup world, given their skills gained during their careers.

Putting the work in, resource person Mr. Richard Day, President of Upgrade Innolab Inc. in Davao City, immersed the attendees with the basics of startups, problem and solution identification, and the creation of a minimum viable product. Workshop activities allowed participants to collaborate.

During the two-day training, TBI Director Dr. Riah Encarnacion and Research and Technology Development Officer Melede Ganoy, together with faculty members from the College of Computing and Information Science and MSIT students also networked, namely: Mr. Roman Osorio, Ms. Glaicel A. Araneta, Ms. Angel Lorraine Morales, and Mr. John Binze Escol, with other higher education institutions (HEIs) for knowledge sharing.

The event also introduced schools new to the field to Caraga RISE, a consortium of TBIs and HEIs in the startup ecosystem. Led by Engr. Emma Lim of the DOST Caraga Innovation Unit, the regional engagement paved the way for potential inter-institutional collaborations, establishing stronger ties among Caraga HEIs to drive technopreneurship and innovation.

DOST-TAPI Conducts Orientation on Gawad Alunig x Dalumat 2026 and Innovation Support Programs

The Caraga State University Technology Business Incubator (CSU-TBI) conducted an orientation led by the DOST-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) for CSU-TBI Incubatees, The Golden Panicles, student researchers, and CSU-TBI Portfolio Manager Mr. Teodoro Castro Abrea Jr.

The orientation featured Florisa Mae Bucao, Senior Science Research Specialist; Josiah Poyugao, Science Research Specialist II; and Jules Philip Tillay, Project Technical Assistant IV, who shared valuable information about DOST-TAPI’s programs and services that support Filipino inventors, innovators, researchers, and technology developers.

A key highlight of the activity was the 5th Edition of Gawad Alunig x Dalumat (GAxD) 2026, with the theme “Empowering Innovation Stories through Creative Advertising.” Participants were introduced to the competition and encouraged to explore creative ways of telling their innovation stories, showcasing the value of their technologies, and connecting their ideas with a wider audience.
The orientation also highlighted DOST-TAPI’s assistance programs for regional technologies, providing opportunities for inventors and innovators to further develop, promote, and advance their innovations toward application and commercialization.

For the CSU-TBI community and student researchers, the activity was more than an orientation. It was an opportunity to learn, connect, and discover new possibilities for turning innovative ideas into solutions with greater impact.

As innovation continues to grow within the university, activities like this help empower aspiring innovators to not only develop their technologies but also tell their stories and share the impact behind their ideas.

Every innovation has a story. Through creativity, collaboration, and the right opportunities, that story can reach further.
