The Aegis family visited Museo El Deposito earlier this month to learn about water treatment procedures in the Spanish Era.

Museo El Deposito is a history museum featuring the Carriedo Water System, and the El Deposito underground reservoir built in 1878.

Made out of volcanic tuff, this reservoir and water system treated water from Ilog San Mateo (now Marikina River), and distributed to various fountains (most popular among these being the Carriedo Fountain in Sta Cruz) and hydrants in Manila. These were built to provide affordable and safe drinking water to town residents. Also, the cholera outbreak prompted authorities to find solutions for the city's drinking water. San Juan was chosen as location because of its elevation from Montalban (now Rodriguez) and Manila.

This reservoir also stood witness in the Katipunan's fight for freedom, with the Katipuneros trying and succeeding to take control of the facility. El Deposito was also used as a tuberculosis hospital and ammunitions dump during American and Japanese rule.
