From the panel to the paperwork: Hive Energy PH deepens its role in Mindoro's innovation ecosystem.

At Mindoro State University's 3rd InnoBIDAtion Festival, Engr. Joseph Amiel Camingal, ECE — CEO of Hive Energy PH — took part in the Stakeholder Forum's Fireside Chat 2, "Market Speaks," alongside representatives from Fligno, Agritektura, the Wadhwani Foundation, and other industry leaders discussing what the market actually needs from regional startups and MSMEs.

The next day, that participation became a commitment: Hive Energy PH signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MinSU to serve as a startup mentor for the university's innovation program.

It's a natural extension of a thesis Engr. Camingal has held since founding Hive Energy PH in 2021 — that Mindoro is fertile ground not for unicorns chasing scale at any cost, but for zebra startups: businesses built to solve real problems (energy access, climate resilience, agricultural productivity) profitably and sustainably, without sacrificing the communities they serve.
Five years in, that thesis now includes mentoring the next generation building it.

Noong Mayo pa lang: PHP 14.9177/kWh.
Isang buwang tumaas ng PHP 3.37 — o 22.61%.

Bakit? Dahil mas maraming emergency power ang kailangan ng Mindoro grid — at ang presyo ng emergency power ay PHP 23.80 hanggang PHP 40.93 bawat kWh. Ito ang binabayaran mo sa bawat resibo mo.

Hindi ito mabibili ng pasensya. At hindi rin ito malamang huhinto.

Bakit ba talagang mahal ang kuryente dito sa Mindoro?

Hindi lang ikaw ang nagtatanong nito. Bawat buwan, marami sa atin ang nagugulat sa resibo — at wala tayong malinaw na sagot kung saan napupunta ang bawat piso.

Kaya, halika, i-break down natin.

Ang bayad mo sa kuryente ay hindi iisa lang. Ganito ang hitsura nito:

Generation Charge — ito ang gastos sa paglikha ng kuryente. Sa Mindoro, malaki pa rin ang bahagi nito na nagmumula sa diesel-fueled plants — at alam mo na kung gaano kagastos ang diesel.

Distribution Charge — ito ang kabayaran sa ORMECO para maihatid ang kuryente mula sa planta hanggang sa bahay mo. Kasama dito ang pagpapanatili ng linya at poste.

Taxes at levies — VAT, local franchise tax, at iba pang government charges na kasama sa resibo mo.

Lifeline subsidies at cross-subsidies — ang low-consuming households ay subsidized; ang bahagi ng gastos ay ibinahagi sa mas mataas na konsumer.

Resulta? Ang average na rate sa Mindoro ay umaabot sa PHP 13 hanggang PHP 16 bawat kilowatt-hour.

Para sa konteksto, ang national average sa Pilipinas ay nasa PHP 10–11/kWh. Ibig sabihin, nagbabayad tayo ng humigit-kumulang 30–50% na mas mahal kaysa ibang bahagi ng bansa.

Hindi ito mali ng ORMECO. Ito ay realidad ng island grid: mas malayo, mas maliit ang sukat, mas mataas ang gastos sa pagpapadala ng langis at pagpapanatili ng sistema.

Ang magandang balita? May solusyon na. At nasa bubong ng bahay mo ang simula nito.
