A Retirement Home Built for Security and Opportunity

CASTILLO 2-STOREY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
Liboton, Naga City

Designed as a retirement home for an OFW couple, this residence reflects years of hard work transformed into a secure, functional, and lasting family investment.

Considering the site’s potential exposure to flooding and earthquakes, the project prioritizes a sound structural system, appropriate building elevation, efficient space planning, natural light, ventilation, and comfortable circulation.

Beyond providing shelter, the house also supports the family’s financial future. The ground floor can be rented and used as a dance and modeling studio, creating an additional source of income during retirement.

This project proves that a thoughtfully designed home can do more than protect a family—it can provide comfort, security, and long-term economic value.

TRUSTED ONCE. TRUSTED AGAIN.

There is something meaningful about being called back by a previous client.

We are grateful to once again be entrusted with the repair and renovation of their home—this time focusing on strengthening and maintaining the roofing system in preparation for heavy rains, storms, and changing weather conditions.

The work includes replacing the existing polycarbonate roofing with galvanized iron sheets, along with roofing maintenance, flashing and gutter repairs, and waterproofing works.

For Big Foot Construction, a returning client is more than another project. It is a reminder that the work we have done before earned enough trust for them to choose us again.

We value that trust, and the best way we can show our gratitude is by doing our job properly—giving the same effort, attention, and quality of service that every project deserves.

Thank you to our valued client for continuing to trust Big Foot Construction.

We are grateful to serve you again.

Pathwalk Project | Ateneo de Naga University – Main Campus

BigFoot Construction is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the continued improvement of Ateneo de Naga University – Main Campus through the construction of a covered pathwalk connecting Fernando Hall and Bonoan Hall.

The project was designed with a simple purpose: to provide students, faculty, and visitors with a safe and comfortable passage, especially during the rainy season.

Rather than introducing a completely different design, the new pathwalk takes inspiration from the existing covered walkways within the campus. This allows the new structure to blend naturally with its surroundings and maintain a consistent architectural character throughout the university.

For us, even a simple pathway matters when it improves how people move, connect, and experience a space every day.

PERMITS 101: Save Time, Money, and Stress

Before you build, renovate, extend, or make major changes to a property, there is one important step that should never be treated as an afterthought: getting the proper permits.

A building permit is more than paperwork or another expense added to construction. It is part of the process that helps ensure a project is properly planned, legally compliant, and designed with public safety in mind.

Under the National Building Code of the Philippines (PD 1096) and applicable local regulations, plans and documents are reviewed before construction proceeds. Depending on the project, this may involve architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing/sanitary, zoning, fire-safety, and other requirements.

Why does this matter to property owners?

Because starting construction without the necessary approvals can create bigger problems later—delays, stop-work orders, penalties, costly revisions, difficulty securing an occupancy permit, and complications when selling, leasing, financing, or documenting the property.

And this is where proper professional planning becomes valuable.

A licensed architect does more than prepare drawings. The architect helps translate the owner’s needs into a design while coordinating the project with applicable codes, site conditions, technical requirements, and the permitting process.

Requirements can vary depending on the LGU, project type, location, occupancy, scope of work, and applicable regulations, so always verify the current requirements with your local Office of the Building Official and other concerned agencies before proceeding.

The lesson is simple:

PLAN IT. DESIGN IT. PERMIT IT. BUILD IT RIGHT.

A little more time spent planning at the beginning can save you from months of delays, unnecessary expenses, and construction problems later.

Good architecture is not only about how a building looks.
It is also about making sure it is safe, functional, compliant, and responsibly built.

Have questions about building permits or the construction process? Drop them in the comments. Your question might be the topic of our next Architecture 101 discussion.

A well-designed campus is more than its buildings—it is also about the spaces that connect them.

BigFoot Construction is honored to be part of the improvement of Ateneo de Naga University – Main Campus through the construction of a covered pathway connecting Fernando Hall and Bonoan Hall.

Designed to provide shelter and comfort during the rainy season, the pathway allows students, faculty, and visitors to move safely across campus while enhancing their everyday experience.

To preserve the identity and character of the university, the design was carefully inspired by the existing covered walkways within the campus—creating continuity, harmony, and a unified architectural language.

At BigFoot Construction, we believe that every project, no matter its scale, should serve a purpose, improve daily life, and respect the environment where it belongs.

Before any rehabilitation work begins, understanding the actual condition of the facility is essential.

For this project, the school provided an allotted budget for the rehabilitation of its grade school restrooms. Our team conducted a detailed site inspection to identify which items require repair, replacement, or improvement.

Each restroom was carefully checked, including the condition and functionality of the doors and door jambs, faucets, lavatories, bidets, flush systems, urinals, lighting, and other existing fixtures.

The school is also considering separate restroom facilities for PWDs and employees as part of the overall improvement plan.

With the available budget, our primary goal is not simply to improve the appearance of the restrooms. Our priority is to restore proper function, safety, accessibility, and ease of use—especially for young students.

For grade school facilities, even small details matter. Fixtures should be functional and easy for children to operate independently and comfortably, with minimal need for assistance.

At Big Foot Construction, we believe that proper rehabilitation begins with an actual site inspection, careful evaluation, and practical recommendations based on the client’s needs and available budget.

Ateneo de Naga Main Campus

We are grateful for the continued trust given to Big Foot Construction for the waterproofing maintenance of the Dolan Building.

The building had been experiencing serious water leakage along its concrete roof gutter. During heavy rains, water penetrated through the slab and ceiling, affecting areas on the upper floor. The situation became disruptive enough to affect the use of some spaces and, at times, the conduct of classes.

For this project, our work focused on addressing the source of the problem—not simply covering the visible signs of leakage.

Proper surface clearing and preparation were carried out before the application of the waterproofing system. Particular attention was given to areas vulnerable to water pe*******on to help provide better and longer-lasting protection.

For Big Foot Construction, maintenance work is also about preserving the building, protecting its users, and keeping important spaces functional.

We are pleased to contribute our services to an institution where these facilities serve students, faculty, and the wider academic community every day.

Another Step Closer to a Family’s Future.

Today, we had our second client presentation, where we presented the revised design proposal for their future home.

Although the original scope was only to prepare the as-built plans for their building permit, we believed we could do more than simply document what already existed. As professionals, we felt it was our responsibility to suggest better solutions that would benefit the family for years to come.

Together, we carefully reviewed every important space in the house—from improving the dining area’s location, refining the kitchen layout for better functionality, providing a practical solution for the common toilet and bath, to discussing the bedrooms, furniture arrangement, headboard placement, and even considering proper orientation based on Feng Shui. Every revision had one purpose: to make the home work better for the people who will live in it every day.

We’re grateful that the client appreciated the improvements and officially approved the final layout. With the design now finalized, we are moving forward with the complete construction drawings and the documents needed for the building permit application.

Projects like this remind us that a family doesn’t need a grand or expensive house to live well. What they need is a home that is thoughtfully planned, safe, functional, and designed around the way they live. A place where everyday routines become easier, children can grow, and memories can be made.

What started as a simple request to help secure a building permit—so the family could legally connect electricity and water—has, by God’s grace, grown into something more. The owner has entrusted us to continue the project through its completion, and we receive that trust with gratitude and humility.

To our client, thank you for believing in Big Foot Construction.

We remain committed to doing our work with integrity, dedication, and excellence—one drawing, one decision, and one home at a time.

From Existing to Better.

Every project has a story before the final design.

In this case, our client already had an existing structure. Our job wasn’t simply to prepare the drawings, it was to study what was already built, understand the family’s needs, and find ways to make the home work better.

Instead of forcing expensive changes, we looked for practical improvements that would have the biggest impact on everyday living. We reorganized the spaces, improved circulation, refined the kitchen and dining layout, planned the bedrooms more efficiently, and made sure every area had a purpose.

Good design isn’t about adding more.
It’s about making every square meter count.

Today, we’re happy to share the proposed design for the Yaon Residence—a home that reflects the family’s needs while making the most of what they already have.

This project is another reminder that thoughtful planning can turn an existing structure into a home that’s more comfortable, more functional, and ready for the years ahead.

Thank you for trusting Big Foot Construction to be part of your journey.
