Construction of the much-awaited Samal Island โ Davao City Connector (SIDC) Project continues to be on steady pace at 57.338% accomplishment, moving one percent (1%) ahead of schedule and keeping track of its target completion before the term of the Marcos Administration ends in 2028.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain spearheaded the site inspection on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to assess the progress of the ongoing civil works on the bridge substructure.
Also present during inspection are Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) โ Bridges Management Cluster Project Director Rodrigo I. Delos Reyes, OIC-Project Manager John Christian T. Gaden, and key technical staff and engineers from the UPMO and the contractor China Road & Bridge Corporation.
Bored piling works on the west (Davao) and east (Samal) land viaducts, as well as the west marine viaduct and main navigational bridge have been fully completed, with only the bored piles for the Davao approach ramp still ongoing. On the other hand, concrete pouring for the columns of the two (2) main piers of the navigational bridge has also been finished, while the installation of form works for the box girders supporting the bridge deck has already commenced.
Once completed, this project will stand as an iconic feat of modern engineering, and will further boost growth and development in the economic and tourism hubs of Davao City and Samal Island.
