DOST-ASTI Advances Inclusive AI Innovation at SkAI-Pinas Congress
The Philippine Sky Artificial Intelligence 3rd Program-wide Congress gathered top AI researchers, government leaders, and industry experts to push for a more inclusive and impactful AI ecosystem in the country. Held in Acacia Hotel, Davao City on 27 February 2025, the congress showcased key milestones of the SkAI-Pinas program, DOST’s flagship AI R&D program, and DIMER, DOST-ASTI’s upcoming model repository designed to make pre-trained AI tools accessible to Filipino researchers, government agencies, and innovators. Experts also discussed AI’s role in disaster resilience, astrophysics, ethics, and education—highlighting the need for stronger collaboration across sectors.
Despite AI’s growing potential, high data-annotation costs, infrastructure gaps, and a lack of AI training opportunities remain barriers for many Filipino researchers and institutions.
SkAI-Pinas aims to democratize AI access by developing open platforms, streamlining AI workflows, and fostering partnerships between government, academia, and industry. By addressing these gaps, the program envisions an AI-powered future where Filipino innovations drive national progress across agriculture, disaster management, and local industries.
