As aquaculture communities like those supported by OPAg and MAFAR continue to grow, one challenge becomes unavoidable: wastewater full of solids, nutrients, and organic load. Tilapia farming is vital for livelihood โ but without proper wastewater control, it can degrade the very rivers and lakes communities rely on.
This is why I am strongly pushing Silicon Carbide (SiC) membrane technology as the primary and standalone solution for fisheries wastewater, LGU treatment needs, and decentralized rural systems.

โ 1. Superior Solids Handling
SiC membranes can handle the high-sediment and high-organic wastewater typical of fishponds and harvest operations โ without clogging like conventional polymer membranes.
โ 2. High Flux = Faster Treatment
SiCโs natural hydrophilicity and wide pores allow water to pass much faster, enabling smaller systems that treat more water with less downtime.
โ 3. Tough and Chemically Resistant
Unlike polymer membranes, SiC can tolerate:
โญabrasive particles
โญhigh turbidity
โญharsh cleaning cycles
โญchemical shocks
This means longer lifespan and lower O&M cost โ essential for LGUs and community-based farms.
โ 4. Minimal Operator Skill Required
SiC systems are stable, forgiving, and simple to run โ making them ideal for:
โญfisherfolk associations
โญbarangay-level facilities
โญremote LGUs
โญsmall industrial users
โญNo specialized personnel required.
โ 5. Perfect for Decentralized, Rural Philippines
Because SiC systems are compact, robust, and energy-efficient, they fit perfectly into areas where:
โญland is limited
โญbudgets are tight
โญmaintenance skills are basic
โญwater quality protection is critical
โ 6. A Direct Path to Clean Water Compliance
SiC provides high removal of TSS, turbidity, and organics, giving communities a strong head start toward compliance with national wastewater standards.

If you want a system that:
โญhandles dirty, high-solid wastewater
โญdoesnโt clog
โญdoesnโt need huge land area
โญis easy to maintain
โญlasts long
โญand actually works in rural Philippine conditionsโฆ
Then Silicon Carbide (SiC) filtration is the technology for you.
Iโm committed to helping communities adopt smart, resilient, and realistic wastewater solutions. If you want a right-sized SiC unit, O&M training, or guidance for aquaculture and domestic wastewater applications โ message me anytime.
Clean water is possible.
Technology can be simple.
SiC makes both true. ๐

๐พ As a Senior Chemical Engineer in the Philippines, I design small-scale wastewater treatment systems aligned with DENR AO 2016-08 and 2021-19 standards. Iโm committed to helping communities and businesses across the Philippines achieve clean water and meet effluent limitsโsustainably and efficiently.
