OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Corics Construction strongly condemns the brutal and senseless attack that resulted in the death of our employee, Mr. Martin Navarro Jr., and the serious injury of Ms. Krystil Tallad, following the shooting incident on April 8, 2026.
Mr. Navarro, a foreman and a person with disability, was a dedicated worker and a family man whose life was unjustly taken. Ms. Tallad, his lawful partner, is currently fighting for her recovery. We extend our deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones during this difficult time.
This tragic incident is not an isolated case. Prior to this, Corics Construction had already received multiple reports of threats, harassment, and intimidation directed at our personnel in relation to our ongoing government infrastructure projects in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
These incidents were properly reported to the concerned authorities, including the appropriate military units under the 6th Infantry Division, particularly the Battalion Commander whose area of responsibility covers our project sites. Despite our efforts to coordinate with authorities and ensure the safety of our workers, these threats persisted and escalated, ultimately culminating in this tragic act of violence.
In this regard, Corics Construction is urgently appealing to the National Bureau of Investigation, the Philippine National Police, and all concerned government agencies to: Conduct an immediate, impartial, and thorough investigation into this incident;
Identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals responsible, including those who may have orchestrated or ordered the attack;
Ensure the protection of witnesses and remaining workers who may be at risk; and Take decisive action to prevent further violence in project areas.
We emphasize that violence, coercion, and intimidation have no place in the implementation of government projects. Our company remains committed to fulfilling its obligations with integrity, while upholding the safety and welfare of our workers.
We call on the authorities to act swiftly and decisively. Justice must be served—not only for Mr. Martin Navarro Jr. and Ms. Krystil Tallad—but also to uphold the rule of law and protect the lives of those who continue to serve in the field.
Corics Construction stands firm in its commitment to cooperate fully with all investigating bodies to ensure that justice is achieved.
