BACK WHEN EARTHQUAKES WEREN'T YET A SOURCE OF FEAR

Integrated Design Engineering was able to produce a remarkable design that tested structural integrity.

This photo over one and a half decades ago shows the construction of an Office Showroom Building with an area of 600 square meters, featuring a row of center columns for the entrance that spans eight meters, with cantilever beams on either side for the office building on the second floor. It expands the showroom below while creating open areas on the ground floor. Because loads are concentrated in the center, cantilevered beam design ensures structural integrity.

THIS BUILDING was constructed three decades ago, designed and built by IDE (Integrated Design Engineering) provides both the workforce and the building supplies, it features a capsule-like structural design, with large columns at the base tapering to smaller ones as the structure rises. It features a foundation designed to support a four story structure.

This building was made possible through the efforts of an engineer who was a professor at a university at that time. Remarkably, the specifications regarding the reinforcing bars in the plans were neither altered nor modified by him.

Despite the fact that the adjacent building a famous Kimball Mall in General Santos burned down, the structure withstood a 6.7 magnitude earthquake as well as the recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
Thanks God, this building remains standing, undamaged and structurally sound.
