Optimumtread Inc Tire Retreading Center Retreading is the process where worn tires are fitted with a new tread to give it a second life.

The truth is, retreading is as old as the rubber tire itself. Its history dated back to World War II when the natural resources were scarce and rationing in force. Civilians skinned the treads off vehicles damaged at the war and bonded them to their old tires to give it a new life. There are many methods being practiced to retread a tyre, but Cold Cure (Precure) and Hot Cure (Mould Cure) are the m

ost common methods adopted by most retreaders worldwide. Cold Cure (Precure)

As the name indicates, the tread rubber used here is molded and precured by the tread rubber manufacturer. The retreader selects the appropriate tread in strips or full circles of various designs, widths and thicknesses. In the precure retread process, a cushion gum bonding layer is placed between the tread and the casing. The proper tread width is applied to the prepared casing in a straight and even fashion. The tyre then moves on towards the curing chamber. Curing now takes place within the chamber pressurized by heated air produced by electricity, steam or hot liquid such as oil. The prepared casing, with the new rubber in place, is put into the chamber where pressure and temperature, applied over the correct length of time cure the cushion gum layer and bond the tread to the tyre.
