MSU-IIT Research Presented at ICCSA 2026 and Published in Springer LNCS Proceedings.

Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) continues to strengthen its international research presence through its participation in the 26th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA 2026), held at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal from June 30 to July 3, 2026. Representing the University, Asst. Prof. Earl Ryan Aleluya delivered a virtual presentation of the research paper entitled “Two Stage Pavement Distress Detection and Classification Using UAV Imagery in Unstructured Road Environments”.

The paper has been published in the conference proceedings under the Springer Nature Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series, Volume 16761.

This study uses a two-stage computer vision framework with UAV imagery to detect and classify pavement distress into four categories in unstructured road environments. With a mean Average Precision of 0.9775, the approach provides practical application for automated road condition assessment and maintenance planning.

This research, authored by Earl Ryan Aleluya, Melody Mae Maluya, Francis Jann Alagon, Edward Rowe Aleluya, and Carl John Salaan, is an output of an internally funded project supported by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise of MSU-IIT. It was developed through a multidisciplinary collaboration involving the Department of Computer Engineering and Mechatronics and the Center for Mechatronics and Robotics (MSU-IIT), the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (MSU-Naawan), and the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Technology (MSU-IIT).

The presentation and publication of this research in ICCSA 2026 reflect the continuing efforts of MSU-IIT to advance high-impact research and foster collaborative scholarship across disciplines and institutions. Through international dissemination platforms, the University contributes to the development of innovative technologies that address real-world challenges while expanding the visibility and reach of Philippine research within the global scientific community.
