Hi, I am Ray Macalalag, your Ilonggo Engineer from the City of Love, for the future we'll love!

It’s always a deeply rewarding feeling when your passion and hard work are recognized. I'm honored to share that I've been selected from an incredible group of Aus4ASEAN alumni to help drive forward ASEAN-Australia cooperation. I am looking forward to bringing my insights to the table, learning from others, and contributing to a community I care so much about.

I will be participating in the 2026 Aus4ASEAN Alumni Dialogue in Jakarta, Indonesia next week and connect with fellow alumni and regional stakeholders in advancing a partnership for the future.

I am grateful to the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, which allowed me to earn these opportunities to make meaningful difference and ripple it with our ASEAN brothers and sisters and beyond.

I sincerely thank the Australian Government for the Australia Awards Scholarship to earn my Master of Transport degree at the University of Sydney which equipped me with the topnotch knowledge in my field of expertise.

Land trips from Bacolod to Dumaguete hit differently. ❤️ While I miss home, these views for work trips are really something. Yes, land trips take 5-7 hours between these two beautiful cities, but these views are breathtaking.

Part ka rin ba ng 2015 young engineers ng DPWH?

Throwback: DPWH days with then Secretary Singson. His leadership was marked with reforms in the ranks and the emergence of merit-based entry to the department. He made sure young engineers had the opportunity to be part of the country’s infrastructure arm. No backer, just pure talent and potential.

Today, I may not be with DPWH but I am grateful for the learnings including highway safety design standards, feasibility study, planning, and road inventory and asset preservation. These technical skills are instrumental to my current job at DEPDev.

To transform public transportation from a begrudged necessity into a dignified choice, we must reimagine terminals as inclusive, vibrant hubs. Investing in humane infrastructure will create equitable mobility, elevate the commuter experience, and foster flourishing regional economies.
