My friends thought I was in Sydney. I wasn’t! Quality time with Mom last weekend exploring Parqal in Metro Manila

It is so refreshing to experience a space in the metro that actually feels like a welcoming “third place.” In case you are wondering, the term “third place” was coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg to describe the physical spaces where people spend time between their home (the “first” place) and work (the “second” place). These are community-building locations where we can exchange ideas, have a good time, and build relationships.

Instead of the usual cramped, boxy retail layouts we’re so used to in traditional malls, Parqal is a breath of fresh air. It prioritizes wide-open walkways, lush greenery, and natural light under that massive, beautiful canopy.

You can actually sit, relax, and just be without feeling boxed in by endless storefronts. It’s the perfect spot to hang out, catch up, and enjoy a slow day. Highly recommend checking it out if you need a break from the usual mall scene. (Ayala Manila Bay and SM Mall of Asia are nearby.)

Happy 59th ASEAN Day!

As we celebrate under this year's theme, "Navigating Our Future, Together," especially with the Philippines holding the 2026 ASEAN Chairship, I am reminded of the incredible power of regional solidarity.

My journey as a 2023 Aus4ASEAN Scholar, completing my Master of Transport at the University of Sydney (a global top 10 institution for transport science and engineering), shaped how I view physical and digital connectivity across our borders.

Last June, I had the honor of representing the Philippines as one of 80 emerging leaders across 11 ASEAN states and Australia at the first-ever Aus4ASEAN Alumni Dialogue in Jakarta. The collaborative energy there was a true testament to our shared future. It reinforced a vital mission: we must actively turn our strong regional connections into tangible, local impact to drive our communities forward.

Here’s to continuing the work of building smarter, more resilient infrastructure and bridging our region, together! 🇵🇭🤝🇦🇺

Tap when you're ready: Apple Pay begins footprint in the Philippines

Apple Pay launched in the Philippines on August 3, enabling users to link local cards for contactless payments via iPhone or Apple Watch. The service offers reduced compliance barriers for banks, enhancing accessibility. We can expect bank announcements soon. Currently, it is live with China Bank, GoTyme, Metrobank, and Union Bank.
