Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity
75th Years of Engineering Excellence

On September 28, 2022, the Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity (also known as the Fellowship of Brother Engineers or Betans), which was originally established in Central Philippine University (formerly Central Philippine College), will celebrate its 75th Founding Anniversary. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Betans extend their r

ecognition and utmost respect to the Founding Fathers of the fellowship: Dean Juan E. Sornito, Engineer Celestino Javier, Engineer Arturo Rivera, Engineer Jesus B. With their infinite vision, noble aspirations, and all-encompassing wisdom, our Founding Fathers have laid a very stable and sound foundation for us, on which the fellowship can build the framework for success. The united and strong bond of fellowship, the exemplary and exceptional performances of Betans in the field of engineering and other fields of endeavor all over the world, are a testament to the realization of their dream to "make this fraternity a vivid symbol of real fellowship of brother engineers." Phi Beta Epsilon is a Professional Fraternity for Engineers, exclusively for students in the College of Engineering in universities and colleges in Iloilo City, Philippines. Its purpose is to bind the top and talented engineering students from different engineering schools in Iloilo City together so that they may work shoulder to shoulder for a common good and noble end. The term "Betans" is the nickname of the alumni and resident members of the Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity from five schools, namely Central Philippine University, Iloilo City College (which upon accreditation became the University of Iloilo while the Iloilo City College, Engineering Department - Lapaz Unit eventually became Western Institute of Technology), the University of Iloilo (now University of Iloilo - PHINMA), Western Institute of Technology, and University of San Agustin. In 2008, a sixth chapter joined the fraternity, the Iloilo Science and Technology University. These schools are based in Iloilo City, Philippines. The fraternity currently has several alumni member organizations based in the Philippines and various countries around the world, creating a global network of Betans ready to support the Resident Members in all chapters in particular and the fellowship in general. As we look back to honor our Founding Fathers and orient our bearings from the starting point, we will continue our journey with the fellowship, using their guiding principles as our compass. We will continue to explore new horizons, equipped with our Code of Conduct to guide us in our words and our deeds, the Betans Creed and Betans Scroll to keep us inspired to achieve our goals and reach our destinations. With this testimony, our Founding Fathers can rest assured that the legacy they left behind with us will continue to flourish as we look forward to the next 75 years and beyond. Words are not enough to express our gratitude, but from the deepest recesses of our hearts, we the Betans express our sincere appreciation and thank you to all of you, our Founding Fathers! The Betans Caravan: A Living Testament to True Brotherhood
www.phibetaepsilon.net

The North America Betans Caravan – 2026 Alaskan Cruise is far more than a vacation or reunion. It is a living testament to the enduring spirit of true brotherhood envisioned by the founders of the Phi Beta Epsilon Professional Fraternity.

When our founders established this fraternity in 1947, they did so with a purpose greater than creating an organization. They envisioned a lifelong brotherhood founded on honor, integrity, mutual respect, professional excellence, and unwavering commitment to one another. Their vision was to unite men who would not only excel in their chosen professions but also uplift each other through every season of life.

This memorable Alaskan journey demonstrates that their vision continues to thrive across generations and continents. Though many of us now live thousands of miles apart, the bonds forged through Phi Beta Epsilon remain as strong as ever. Distance has never diminished our fellowship; instead, it has strengthened our appreciation for one another.

As we sail together aboard the MS Koningsdam, surrounded by Alaska’s majestic mountains and breathtaking glaciers, we are reminded that the strongest foundations are not built with concrete or steel—they are built with trust, loyalty, shared experiences, and genuine brotherhood.

This caravan is a celebration of lifelong friendships, shared memories, professional achievements, and our collective commitment to the ideals that have united Betans for nearly eight decades. It is proof that Phi Beta Epsilon is not simply a fraternity we once joined—it is a brotherhood we continue to live every day.

Together, we honor our founders by preserving their vision, strengthening our fraternity, mentoring the next generation, and demonstrating that true brotherhood transcends time, distance, and generations.

As we embark on this unforgettable voyage, let us continue to live by the values that define us:

“Conquering new frontiers, fueled by unity and bound by honor.”

May this caravan inspire every Betan to renew his commitment to our fraternity’s ideals, to cherish the lifelong bonds we share, and to leave a legacy worthy of those who founded Phi Beta Epsilon.

Once a Betan, Always a Betan.

From July 25 to August 1, 2026, the spirit of Brotherhood, Unity, and Family Fellowship will once again sail across North America as the Toronto Betans proudly host the North American Betans Caravan aboard the magnificent MS Koningsdam on an unforgettable Alaska Cruise.

For many years, our Betan tradition has brought us together through land caravans, creating lifelong memories, strengthening friendships, and celebrating the enduring bond of our professional engineering brotherhood. This year, we elevate that tradition to the open seas — where the beauty of Alaska’s majestic glaciers, mountains, and endless horizons will become the backdrop of another historic gathering of Betans and the Betans’ Wives Circle.

This cruise is more than a vacation. It is a celebration of friendship that has endured through decades, careers, challenges, and successes. It is a reminder that wherever life takes us, the Betan spirit continues to unite us as one family.

As we journey together aboard the MS Koningsdam, may this voyage inspire deeper camaraderie, renewed brotherhood, joyful laughter, and cherished memories with our wives, families, and fellow Betans. Let this gathering become another chapter of our proud legacy — proving that true brotherhood grows stronger with time, distance, and shared experiences.

To the Toronto Betans, thank you for hosting this meaningful and memorable event. Your dedication continues the proud tradition of keeping the Betan flame alive across generations and across continents.

To all Betans and the Betans’ Wives Circle:
Prepare your hearts for fellowship, your cameras for breathtaking scenery, and your spirits for a journey filled with laughter, stories, music, and unforgettable moments.

Once a Betan, Always a Betan, Forever a Betan.

See you all aboard the MS Koningsdam!

The journey may change, but the brotherhood remains.

For years, the North American Betans have embraced the tradition of the annual land caravan—miles of highways, shared laughter at rest stops, stories exchanged under open skies, and the quiet, enduring presence of brotherhood that binds them all. It has never been just about the destination, but about the fellowship forged along the way—a living testament to the spirit of Phi Beta Epsilon.

This year, however, the road gives way to the sea.

From July 25 to August 1, 2026, the Betans, together with their wives, embark on a new adventure—a seven-day Alaskan cruise departing from Vancouver. Though the setting is different—vast oceans instead of winding roads, glaciers instead of mountain highways—the essence remains unchanged. The same camaraderie sails with them. The same brotherhood anchors them.

Onboard, amid the breathtaking beauty of Alaska’s towering ice formations and serene waters, the Betans will once again rediscover what has always made their gatherings meaningful. It is in the shared meals, the spontaneous laughter, the heartfelt conversations, and the quiet moments of reflection that the true spirit of fellowship reveals itself. Their wives, ever-present partners in this journey, strengthen the circle—adding warmth, balance, and deeper connection to an already unbreakable bond.

This cruise is not merely a change in scenery; it is a renewal of purpose. It reminds every Betan that brotherhood is not confined to geography or tradition—it lives in the hearts of those who carry it forward. Whether on the open road or across open seas, the mission remains the same: to nurture lifelong friendships, to support one another through every season of life, and to pass on a legacy of unity to the generations that follow.

In the rhythm of the waves and the majesty of Alaska, the North American Betans will once again affirm that Phi Beta Epsilon is more than an organization—it is a brotherhood that endures, evolves, and inspires.

Because in the end, it was never about how the journey was taken.

It was always about who you take it with.

Phi Beta Epsilon in the Digital Age: Engineering the Future of the Brotherhood

Phi Beta Epsilon stands as a professional engineering fraternity built on a strong foundation of technical excellence, brotherhood, and service. These core values have guided generations of Betans in their professional journeys and continue to define our identity as engineers committed to competence, integrity, and progress.

In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, embracing digital technology is no longer optional—it is essential. Engineering, as a profession, is increasingly shaped by advancements in digital systems, automation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven solutions. For every Betan, familiarity with modern technology is not merely an advantage but a professional responsibility aligned with our discipline and vocation.

As engineers, technology is part of our expertise and our professional lifeblood. From structural design and construction systems to digital platforms that support collaboration and innovation, the integration of technology enhances the way we solve problems and deliver solutions. The engineering field is transforming, and our brotherhood must remain proactive in adapting to these changes to sustain relevance and leadership in the profession.

The digital age also presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the fraternity itself. Through the effective use of digital tools, communication platforms, and knowledge-sharing systems, Betans across different regions can collaborate more efficiently, preserve the legacy of our brotherhood, and mentor the next generation of engineers. Technology enables us to remain connected globally while maintaining the strong fraternal bond that defines Phi Beta Epsilon.

Exploring emerging technologies with discipline and initiative allows our brotherhood to grow in both professional capability and organizational strength. By embracing innovation early, we position ourselves as forward-thinking engineers who are prepared to meet the complex challenges of modern infrastructure, construction, and engineering practice. This mindset ensures that the fraternity remains dynamic, resilient, and aligned with the evolving demands of the engineering profession.

Ultimately, we are engineers by training and by calling. It is our duty to innovate, to continuously learn, and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of engineering. By integrating digital technology into our professional and fraternal culture, we not only elevate individual Betans but also secure a stronger, more sustainable future for the brotherhood.

As we move forward in the digital era, let us reaffirm our commitment to excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning—ensuring that Phi Beta Epsilon continues to produce engineers who will help shape the future of engineering for generations to come.
