I hope that the Philippines will adopt this initiative. Some may say it is very simple, but how come we still can’t do it?

Small actions underground create massive impact above.

By installing concealed drain nets, Singapore is stopping plastic at the source—before it pollutes rivers, canals, and oceans. This is how smart design protects our planet, one drop at a time.

READ | To prevent the further degradation of the country’s waterways just like what happened to Manila Bay and its tributaries, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is urging local government units (LGUs) not to issue building permits to establishments unless their design of the hygienic septic tank or wastewater treatment facility conforms with existing environmental laws and policies.

Accidents May Turn Into Big Disasters

Here’s a scenario: A small truck carrying goods at a port in Bicol fell into the ocean due to a mechanical problem. Hours later, the truck is still submerged, posing a serious risk of pollution. Its cargo, along with mechanical oil, may contaminate the water.

Cleaning materials such as Zonrox bleach and soaps containing surfactants are now leaking into the ocean. These substances can harm marine life, while plastic materials continue to float and spread in the water.
What is the context of this situation? We are paying large amounts in terminal fees—so what services are we actually receiving in return? Even personnel from government forces tasked with guarding our waters are present, yet no action has been taken.

Is it enough that the port authority will compensate for the lost goods? What about the ocean? What about the marine life? Do we care?
Are we really okay with this kind of bare minimum service while paying the proper fees?
Sigh… what is happening to the Philippines?

Sanitary Engineering is one of the least taken licensure examinations in the country. Only 270 examinees took the board examination, 174 passed, resulting in a 64.44% passing rate

Only 14 universities nationwide offer the Sanitary Engineering program. Among these schools, Batangas State University-Alangilan Campus produced the highest number of passers, with 22 successful examinees, proving its strong performance in this specialized field.

A Sanitary Engineer is responsible for protecting public health and the environment through the design and management of water supply, wastewater, sewerage, and solid waste systems, as well as pollution control and sanitary inspections. They ensure compliance with health and environmental laws and work closely with government agencies, LGUs, and private organizations.

In the Philippines, salaries range from ₱20,000–₱30,000 for entry-level positions, ₱27,000–₱46,000+ in government service, ₱50,000 and above in senior private-sector roles, and significantly higher pay for overseas employment.
