LIGTAS-AGAD wraps up the two-day โInter-Agency Workshop for Geohazards Knowledge and Technologies,โ held on September 11โ12, 2026, at the Development Academy of the Philippines, Tagaytay City.
The workshop brought together technical experts and partner agencies to consolidate knowledge, insights, and feedback to strengthen the LIGTAS-AGAD Rainfall-Induced Landslide Early Warning System (RILEWS). The workshop was attended by thirty-seven (37) participants from different agencies and offices: DOST-PHIVOLCS, UPD-NIGS, DENR-MGB, UPLB-SESAM, UPLB-IRNR, and UPLB-CEAT.
Led by Dr. Decibel F. Eslava (Professor and Dean, UPLB-SESAM), Dr. Jenielyn T. Padrones (Professor, UPLB-IRNR), and Dr. Loucel E. Cui (Associate Professor, UPLB-SESAM), the LIGTAS-AGAD team presented the programโs outputs, frameworks, and methodologies. Participating agencies recognized the outputโs relevance to their respective mandates and ongoing initiatives. The event also explored opportunities to harmonize and adopt the following approaches, technologies, and initiatives:
โข Geotechnical Sampling and Analyses;
โข Landslide Debris-Flow Modelling;
โข Rainfall Threshold Computation;
โข RILEWS Operationalization;
โข Preparation and Processing of Geospatial Data using QGIS;
โข RILEWS Sustainability Planning; and
โข LIGTAS-AGAD Web Portal, Landslide Reporting System, Landslide Database and Mobile Application.
The event marked an important step toward strengthening inter-agency collaboration, advancing geohazards science and technology, and developing sustainable landslide early warning systems to improve local disaster risk reduction policies and initiatives at the national level.
Moving forward, discussions will focus on operationalizing the system within the warning framework of DENR-MGB, paving the way for its integration into existing disaster risk reduction and early warning mechanisms.
