Semirara Island has a thriving economy with many local industries. Among the most prominent is community-led fishing. Resident fishermen supply the island with fresh fish and seafood, serving as a pillar of the island's food security. SMPC helps support these fishermen, implementing programs over the years that supply them with motor equipment, solar kits, and donated fiberglass boats.

Giant clams help maintain healthy marine ecosystems by filtering seawater, making their local habitats cleaner. This attracts schools of fish that use the clams and surrounding reef areas for shelter and food. The larger fish population increases the catch of local fishermen, increasing their profit and the food security of their communities.

Recognizing its importance, SMPC established the Semirara Marine Hatchery Laboratory (SMHL), one of the few privately established facilities in the Philippines dedicated to the protection, propagation, and conservation of giant clams.
