Tito & Tita

Tito & Tita From the Philippines, Tito & Tita is a film and art collective whose work spans installation, film, photography and collective actions.

Tito & Tita is a film and art collective from the Philippines whose work spans installation, film, photography and collective actions. Centrally concerned with possibilities of photographic media and its various histories, their name Tito & Tita is Tagalog for 'uncle and aunts', suggesting an informal network of artist collaborators. Exploring an array of spatial, architectural, performative, and

cinematographic elements of image-making, including through their own dynamics as a collective, engaging and creating casually, providing loose yet focused parameters for potent collaboration. As individual filmmakers, their works have been featured in various film festivals and art fairs including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2006-2017), the Museum of the Moving Image, New York (2012), Documenta in Kassel (2012), among others. As a collective, they have exhibited at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery, U.P. Film Center (2012), Green Papaya Art Projects (2013), Blanc Gallery (2014), Silverlens Gallery (2014), Lopez Memorial Museum & Library (2014), and 98B's PAN, part of the London Biennale Manila Pollination (2016), redefining independent cinema and photography in Manila via an enthralling transformation of images and disarming practicality, amidst all the symbolism, surrealism, and a variation of experimental techniques. Our film, Director's Cat, is screening in Dublin at the Irish Film Institute (IFI) tomorrow, Wednesday, October 30, 18:30, part of George Clark | Sites & Rites + Q&A

Sites & Rites is a new configuration of artist George Clark’s ongoing ‘Eyemo rolls’ project, a series that interleaves his 35mm film footage with works by other artists. Developed as a means to think about the cinema as a space of montage and a site of cultural entanglement, this programme considers contested territories and ritual actions. Filmmaker and activist Mok Chui-Yu explores the origins of the struggle of Hong Kong’s intellectual youth while Barbara McCullough’s water ritual shows reclaimed space in Los Angeles. Other works include Tito & Tita’s feline screen-test Director’s Cat, Maori artist Shannon Te Ao’s reading of Joanna Margaret Paul’s poetry to house-plants, and Ismal Muntaha’s arresting depiction of Indonesian community rituals in Terra Na Sae.

We are delighted to welcome artist & filmmaker George Clark to introduce this screening and to take part in...
