The Environmental Management Bureau – National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) is currently conducting Rapid On-Site Validation and aerial assessments via drone to identify areas affected by an ongoing fire incident at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill, Navotas City.

While full mapping of the affected barangays is underway, we are issuing this initial advisory to ensure the safety of residents in the immediate vicinity and those situated downwind.

Our Ambient Air Unit are currently deployed to perform the following actions:

Drone Mapping: Identifying the exact footprint of the affected areas and the direction of the plume.

Air Quality Sampling: We are readying equipment for immediate ambient air sampling. Monitoring stations are being established at:

Upwind/Baseline Stations: To establish normal air quality levels.
Downwind Stations: Specifically coordinating with Region 3 authorities for monitoring in areas where the wind is carrying the emissions.

We will release a list of specific affected barangays as soon as the drone validation is completed. Please stay tuned to our official social media pages for real-time updates.

HEALTH & SAFETY GUIDELINES

To minimize exposure to potentially harmful air pollutants, the public is advised to observe the following:

Stay Indoors: Residents in affected barangays are encouraged to remain inside their homes with windows and doors closed.

Suspension of Activities: We recommend the temporary suspension of outdoor activities, sports, and classes in areas where smoke or odors are prevalent.

Respiratory Protection: If you must go outside, use an N95 mask or an equivalent respirator. This is strongly advised for high-risk individuals, including:
- Children and infants
- The elderly
- Pregnant women
- Individuals with pre-existing heart or lung conditions (e.g., asthma, COPD).
