More resources are headed to Negros Oriental’s geothermal host communities.

Under the enhanced Energy Regulation (ER) Program 1-94, remittances from the Southern Negros Geothermal Project are set to increase in 2026 as the allocation rate rises from ₱0.01 to ₱0.03 per kilowatt-hour of electricity generated and sold.

The additional funds will support livelihood, health, reforestation, watershed management, and other environmental initiatives across Negros Oriental.

As the energy transition takes shape, context matters.

At the Philippine Net Zero Conference 2026, media professionals will have an exclusive half-day session through the Net Zero Media Academy on Day 2, 16 September. The session will explore these topics and the questions that matter in covering the country’s decarbonization journey. It will run from 1:00–5:00 PM at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) in Pasay City.

The story of the Baslay Highland Agriculture Cooperative (BASHACO) is one of transformation—from a community of slash-and-burn farmers to coffee growers and forest stewards.

BASHACO traces its roots to the Baslay Farmers Association, organized in 1985 in Baslay, Dauin, Negros Oriental. Recognizing the need for both livelihood opportunities and forest protection, First Gen's Energy Development Corporation partnered with local farmers to help build a more sustainable way of life.

Coffee became an important part of that journey. With support in training, agroforestry, and livelihood development, the farmers grew from kaingineros into coffee growers and brewers—and, ultimately, into stewards of the forest.

Today, BASHACO is an independent, self-reliant community known for its single-origin Baslay Highland Brew Coffee, wild palm sugar, cacao, honey, and other local products, while continuing to care for the forests that have long been part of its story.

Every cup of Baslay Coffee reflects how far this community has come—turning sustainable farming into livelihood, conservation into purpose, and local coffee into a source of pride.

The energy transition is reaching the places that shape the next generation.

Enderun Colleges has completed its transition to renewable energy across its entire 1.7-hectare campus in McKinley Hill, Taguig, with an estimated 650-kilowatt energy demand now supplied by geothermal power from First Gen Renewables’ Unified Leyte power plant.

The partnership agreement, signed in April and effective June 2026, marks another step in Enderun’s green campus agenda—showing how educational institutions can put their sustainability goals into practice.
