She didn't come to talk about trash. She came to talk about home. 🏘️

Today at the 34th SHDA–DHSUD National Developers Convention, our President, Ms. Isabelita "Eisa" Paredes Mercado, delivered "Enhancing Solid Waste Management in the Philippines for Housing Development" — and asked the country's housing developers a question most master plans never answer:

When we build communities, who plans for the waste they will generate every day — for decades?

Her proposal: the Waste-Smart Housing Community. Five components, designed in from day one, the same way we plan roads, water and power:

🏘️ PLAN — waste areas belong in the master plan, not in whatever space is left
🗂️ SEGREGATE — make sorting easy for every household
🚛 COLLECT — preserve what residents separated
♻️ RECOVER — prevent material from becoming garbage in the first place
📊 MEASURE — so every community can see it working

💡 And inside that model, one component is already proven on our streets: through Trash to Cashback, residents redeem their sorted recyclables as cashback at neighbourhood stores — because behaviour changes when it is easy, and rewarded.

A sustainable home should be part of a sustainable community. Today, that idea reached the people who build them. 💚

𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗜𝗻𝗰. (𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗧), in partnership with 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗮-𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱, successfully signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲 and the 𝗕𝗶ñ𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 today, September 16, 2026, for the implementation of the 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 in Biñan City.

The signing was joined by 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀, 𝗗𝗜𝗟𝗚 𝗟𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝘆-𝗔𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻, and 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮. 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮, 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗦, 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗮-𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, together with representatives from the City Government and barangay officials.

Through 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗽𝗼𝗻, participating communities can collect and return clear PET bottles of any brand through participating micro-retailers, helping bring bottles back into the recycling value chain while earning rewards and Environmental Points (EP).

BEST looks forward to bringing this community-based recycling initiative to Biñan and strengthening bottle recovery together with Coca-Cola Philippines and the Biñan City Government. ♻️
