Geospectrum Marketing Services is honored to represent the Philippines at the Global Space Technology Convention & Exhibition (GSTCE) 2026 this May 13–14, as part of the Southeast Asia Pavilion, Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Navotas Landfill Fire: Tracking the Impact from Space

As of April 22, 2026, the fire at the Navotas landfill continues to develop, with reports indicating the affected area has expanded significantly.

Following our previous update where we compared the situation during the first few days of the fire, our latest PlanetScope imagery from April 22 now captures how the site has evolved since the incident began on April 10. This continuous monitoring offers a broader view of the visible changes at the site and the movement of smoke plumes across Metro Manila.

By utilizing high-frequency satellite updates, Geospectrum provides objective imagery to support situational awareness and long-term documentation of urban emergencies.

Earth Day 2026 | From Awareness to Accountability

Today, Geospectrum joins the global community in celebrating Earth Day, an event marking the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

Did you know that the first Earth Day was inspired by Senator Ga***rd Nelson of Wisconsin? After witnessing the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, he proposed a "national teach-in on the environment" to move ecological protection into the center of public policy and decision-making.

At Geospectrum, we reflect on this legacy by providing the technology needed to move from awareness to objective action. Understanding our natural resources requires a reliable way to observe and measure changes in the landscape over time.

Our work in areas like Coron, Palawan, demonstrates how high-resolution data transforms local conservation. Through Planet’s Forest Carbon data, we provide a way to quantify forest structure from space. By leveraging deep learning and multi-sensor fusion, this technology enables:

-Canopy Observations: Access data on canopy height and canopy cover at a 3-meter resolution, allowing for the visualization of forest dynamics down to individual trees.

-Aboveground Live Carbon: Obtain estimates of carbon stored in woody biomass, providing a data-driven solution for carbon accounting and environmental assessments.

-Diligence & Monitoring: Utilize historical data to establish project baselines and quarterly updates to identify changes, such as forest degradation, that annual datasets might miss.

Navotas Landfill Fire as Seen From Space

Using PlanetScope’s 3-meter daily satellite imagery, Geospectrum captured the scale of the Navotas landfill fire that broke out on the evening of April 10. The high-resolution data revealed how quickly smoke plumes spread across the entirety of CAMANAVA area, providing a reliable comparison of the situation before, during, and after the fire.

With Planet Labs operating the largest constellation of monitoring satellites, local governments are empowered to gain near-daily insights of their areas of interest to strengthen response, enforce accountability, and prevent future crises.
