VOUCHERS FOR YOUNGER LEARNERS🎒
School voucher assistance could soon reach Filipino children as early as Kindergarten.
The House of Representatives has included an additional ₱1.93 billion in its proposed 2027 national budget for the Basic Education Voucher Program, with the funding intended to extend assistance to learners from Kindergarten through Grade 6.
The proposal would expand government support beyond existing programs such as the Educational Service Contracting Program and the Senior High School Voucher Program.
A separate measure that would formally expand the voucher system has also moved through Congress.
The Senate and House have already ratified the reconciled version of the Basic Education Voucher Assistance Act, which would establish a broader voucher program covering qualified learners from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
For Kinder to Grade 6, the program is intended to help eligible learners enroll in participating private schools, particularly in areas where public schools are congested or where access to a nearby public school is limited.
Under the ratified measure, priority would be given to qualified learners coming from congested public schools, those living in areas without a nearby public school, and those in communities where public schools are already overcrowded.
The expansion is also meant to make use of available spaces in private schools while helping ease pressure on crowded public-school classrooms.
But families should take note that applications are not open yet.
The ₱1.93-billion allocation is still part of the proposed 2027 national budget, while the voucher expansion measure has been ratified by Congress but has not yet completed the process needed to become law.
Details such as the final qualifications, voucher amounts, participating schools, application dates, and procedures will still depend on the final law, approved budget, and DepEd guidelines.
For now, the development means government funding is being proposed to extend voucher assistance to younger learners, including those in Kindergarten and elementary school.
