According to Railway Engineer Paul Allen Patriarca, the potential for a comeback of AGT-UP DOST is there, but the path to restoration requires moving away from "improvised" fixes and toward international standards. While the "bones" of the systemโlike the 650 VDC substation and pneumatic compressorsโare still holding strong, the brain and brawn need a serious upgrade.
General Impressions:
1. Traction motor beyond repair
2. Transmission shaft nowhere to be found
3. Compressor for pneumatic system is intact, but door control unit must be replaced with supplier. (Supplier is still active)
4. 650 VDC Traction substation intact, but conductor rail is not par with specifications (Supplier is still active)
5. Master Unit is designed with redundancy for end to end car operation, but needs to be replaced along with TMS
6. Stanchion design does not follow JIS standards.
7. Guideway gauge is not defined, guidewheels are not aligned (locally manufactured, easily rectifiable)
8. Coupler system is locally manufactured/improvised, must be replaced with rail standard coupler for future expandability and inter-operability.
The good news? The original suppliers are still active, making the path to a professional-grade retrofit more than just a dream. Itโs time to trade "locally improvised" for "railway ready."
